Day 1 Flight Frankfurt – Almaty
Day 2 Almaty – Father of Apples (Kazakhstan)
Arrival in the early hours of the morning and transfer to your comfortable hotel. In the morning, city tour including the Russian Orthodox wooden cathedral, wedding palace, circus, and central mosque. Lunch in a traditional yurt restaurant. In the afternoon, your journey begins on the special train. A welcome drink and a short presentation await you on board. (FMA)
Day 3 At Lake Issyk-Kul (Kyrgyzstan)
This morning, you will reach the breathtaking Lake Issyk-Kul. A visit to the Nomadic Culture Center will give you a closer look at this ethnic group. You will experience artistic performances from Kyrgyzstan and taste traditional drinks. A bus ride will take you to Cholpon-Ata, where you will start a boat tour on Lake Issyk-Kul. In the evening, your train will depart for Bishkek. (FMA)
Day 4 Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan)
After breakfast on board, you will arrive in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek. On a tour, you will discover its many sights. With around 100 m² of green space per inhabitant, Bishkek is one of the greenest cities in the world! In the afternoon, you will take a trip to Ala-Archa National Park, and in the evening, your special train will depart for Uzbekistan. (FMA)
Day 5 Tashkent (Uzbekistan)
Your special train arrives in Tashkent in the morning. City tour including the Kukeldash Madrasah, the Navoi and Amir Timur monuments, and the typical mud houses. You will spend the night in a comfortable hotel. (FMA)
Day 6 Kokand (Uzbekistan)
After breakfast, your train crosses the Kamchik mountain pass at almost 2,300 m above sea level. In the afternoon, you reach the city of Kokand. Here you visit the palace of Xudayar Khan. (FMA)
Day 7: Journey through time (Uzbekistan)
Today, you will experience the unique traditions of a region lost in time as part of an artistic performance. Afterwards, you will travel to Shahrisabz. In the evening, you will head towards Samarkand. (FMA)
Day 8 Samarkand (Uzbekistan)
Today, you will visit the Shah-e-Sende necropolis, the Afrosiab archaeological site with a guided tour of the museum, and Registan Square. You will spend the next two nights in a mid-range hotel in Samarkand. (FMA)
Day 9 Samarkand, the Magnificent (Uzbekistan)
Today you have free time. Or you may have booked one of the two excursion packages available for today. If you have booked the Samarkand excursion package, you will visit a silk carpet factory and an Uzbek artisan family who make paper from mulberry bark. You will see the Ulug Beg Observatory and the ruins of the Bibi Khanum Mosque. You will visit the interior of the palace-like Gur Emir Mausoleum. It houses the tomb of Tamerlane, who, as a famous builder, turned his capital into a paradise, but also went down in history as a feared conqueror. Those who have booked the Penjikent excursion package will travel to Tajikistan today. Here you will go on a city tour and visit the ruined city, the Rudaki Museum, and the Alim Dodcho Mosque. (FA)
Day 10 Samarkand (Uzbekistan)
Free time in the morning. Around noon, you will travel to Khiva. Enjoy a relaxing day on the Orient Silk Road Express – you will spend the night on board. (FMA)
Day 11 Khiva – A fairy tale from 1001 Nights turned to stone (Uzbekistan)
Today you will visit the oasis of Khiva. Palaces, mosques, minarets, mausoleums, and madrasas form one of the best-preserved ensembles of medieval oriental urban architecture. (FMA)
Day 12 Bukhara, the Noble (Uzbekistan)
Located in the middle of the Kyzylkum Desert, Bukhara has around a thousand monuments that recall the heyday of the Great Silk Road. In the old town, you can see the almost 50-meter-high Kalyan Minaret and the Labi-Hauz ensemble by the pond, among other things. In front of the monument to Nasreddin, an Oriental version of Till Eulenspiegel, you can listen to some of his jokes and legends. In the courtyard of a madrasah, you will enjoy a show with music, local dances, and a presentation of colorful national costumes. You will spend the next two nights in a mid-range hotel in Bukhara. Day 13 The Samanid Mausoleum (Uzbekistan)
If you have booked the excursion package, you will experience Bukhara as part of a full-day sightseeing program including lunch. The city presents itself as a large, unique, and authentic architectural museum that has retained its ancient Oriental appearance. In the morning, we will take you to the magnificent Mire-e Arab madrasah and the Samanid Mausoleum. Afterwards, you will take a tour of the mighty Ark Fortress. (FA)
Day 14 Tashkent (Uzbekistan)
In the morning, you will have some free time in Bukhara before your special train departs for Tashkent. You will arrive here in the afternoon. After a farewell dinner in Tashkent, you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel. (FMA)
Day 15 Return journey
Flight to Frankfurt – the end of a fairytale journey!
