Please note that starting in 2027, the trip will last only 7 days or 6 nights. After your stay in Qeqertarsuaq (Day 3), you will continue directly to the Eqip Sermia Glacier (Day 4); the visit to Uummannaq is not included in this itinerary.
Day 1: Kangerlussuaq, Greenland – Embarkation
On the first day, you'll arrive in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland’s only inland town and a major aviation hub with a fascinating history dating back to the Cold War era. Upon arrival, you’ll travel by Zodiac to the Ocean Albatros , settle into your cabin, take part in the safety drill, and then toast the start of your journey through the impressive Kangerlussuaq Fjord with a glass of champagne.
Day 2: Sisimiut – Greenland's second largest city
With a population of about 5,400, Sisimiut is Greenland’s second-largest city. The area has been inhabited by Paleo-Inuit peoples since around 2500 B.C., and on the nearby Tele Island, you can still find impressive historical ruins today, which you can explore on a refreshing hike.
The city was founded in 1756 under the name Holsteinsborg and features well-preserved historic buildings, including the Blue Church, built in 1775, located in the city’s charming museum district. Today, Sisimiut is a major center for education and industry. It is home to one of Greenland’s largest fish-processing plants as well as the utility company KNI, which supplies remote settlements.
Sisimiut uniquely blends traditional and modern Arctic lifestyles. Discover the Taseralik Cultural Center, the City Museum, and the town’s famous art workshop, and sample Greenlandic specialties.
Day 3: Qeqertarsuaq, Disko Island
Qeqertarsuaq is a picturesque town nestled among the imposing basalt mountains of Disko Island. The town was once the center of the whaling industry in North Greenland, but after the industry’s decline, the focus shifted to hunting, fishing, and the growing tourism sector.
The fertile volcanic soil and mild microclimate in Qeqertarsuaq give rise to unusually lush vegetation, which, together with the rugged landscape, colorful houses, and excellent hiking opportunities, delights visitors and locals alike.
In the afternoon, you’ll explore the stunning coastal landscape of nearby Kuannit by Zodiac; the area is known for its lush tundra, caves, waterfalls, and spectacular views.
Day 4: Uummannaq – the Greenlandic Riviera
Uummannaq lies at the foot of its striking, 1,170-meter-high “heart-shaped” mountain—one of Greenland’s most famous landmarks. The town was founded in 1763 by Danish colonists and combines historic charm with a rich Inuit culture.
Today, Uummannaq is a vibrant community where locals sell traditional handicrafts in the town square and fresh fish at the bustling market. The residents remain deeply connected to their traditional way of life. Visit the museum to learn more about local history, or take a hike to Santa’s House—another well-known landmark in the region.
During your cruise through Uummannaq Fjord, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of iceberg-dotted waters and majestic mountain peaks under the seemingly endless midnight sun.
Please note that for trips in 2027, the day in Uummannaq has been omitted.
Day 5: Eqip Sermia Glacier
From Uummannaq, you will return to the center of Disko Bay and set sail for Eqip Sermia.
Eqip Sermia (a descriptive Greenlandic name meaning “the glacier at the end of the fjord”) is relatively small compared to other Greenlandic glaciers, but it remains a massive ice stream flowing directly from the ice sheet. At the same time, it is one of the most active glaciers in the region—large chunks of ice are constantly breaking off from its imposing glacier front.
If conditions permit, we’ll launch our Zodiacs so you can get up close to this impressive ice flow. With a little luck, you’ll be able to witness, from a safe distance, the thunderous roar of the ice masses as they regularly calve into the sea at sea level.
Day 6: Ilulissat – the iceberg capital of the world
Ilulissat—which means “icebergs” in the Kalaallisut language—is considered the impressive “iceberg capital of the world.” It is home to the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which you can reach with a short walk from the harbor. The fjord, which is about 70 kilometers long, leads to Sermeq Kujalleq, the largest glacier outside of Antarctica. It drains about 13% of Greenland’s ice sheet and produces around 10% of all icebergs in the Northern Hemisphere—more than the annual water volume of the entire United States.
The city, founded about 280 years ago, is also the birthplace of the famous polar explorer Knud Rasmussen. As Greenland’s third-largest city, Ilulissat uniquely combines culture, history, and adventure. Enjoy fresh local seafood, lively markets, and stylish art galleries.
The hiking trails around the ice fjord are among the absolute highlights for visitors. In addition, you have the opportunity to take optional boat or sightseeing flights to experience the immense power of the ice up close.
Day 7: The settlement of Itilleq
The settlement of Itilleq—which translates as “the crossing from the sea”—is a picturesque village nestled between mountains and fjords north of the Arctic Circle. Located on the edge of the Aasivissuit–Nipisat UNESCO World Heritage Site, the village preserves a rich Inuit hunting heritage that dates back thousands of years.
Today, colorful modern houses have replaced the old peat-roofed homes and define the village’s character. Nevertheless, many residents continue to make their living from char, reindeer, and musk oxen, thus combining traditional ways of life with modern daily life. Warm Greenlandic hospitality welcomes visitors who wish to discover this particularly cozy and authentic village.
Day 8: Kangerlussuaq, Greenland – Disembarkation
To conclude your trip, you’ll travel up the 160-kilometer-long Kangerlussuaq Fjord and leave the Ocean Albatros by Zodiac after a warm farewell to the expedition team and crew.
Kangerlussuaq Although Kangerlussuaq is better known for its military history during the Cold War and its importance as a transportation hub than for its cultural attractions, the surrounding wilderness impresses with its extraordinary natural beauty. Originally built by the U.S. military in the 1950s, the town still retains a functional, understated charm.
Your Arctic adventure comes to an end at the modern airport—leaving you with unforgettable memories of Greenland’s wild landscape and fascinating culture.
The daily programs described here are for your guidance. The itinerary may vary considerably due to local ice and weather conditions, last-minute permit procedures, and local authorities, but also to respond to current conditions regarding wildlife viewing.Theexpedition leader on board will determine the final itinerary and daily program. Flexibility is of utmost importance during our expedition-style voyages.
*The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon. They appear in the Arctic under certain conditions between late August and early April. We cannot guarantee that they will appear during your trip.

This program is designed for guests who simply want to get a first taste of the polar kayaking experience. Each participant paddles once per trip in a group of 14 people, accompanied by a team of specialized guides and a safety Zodiac.
The total number of available kayak spots per trip varies depending on the trip duration and weather conditions. However, we make every effort to get groups out on the water whenever possible.

- Weather conditions: Weather , sea, and ice conditions determine when and where the kayaking tour takes place to ensure your safety and enhance your experience. The expedition leader will do their best to ensure that the kayaking tour can take place.

Excursion to the Reindeer Glacier, Kangerlussuaq (included)
The inland ice is one of Greenland's biggest attractions, covering 80% of the country's surface. However, every year the size of this ice mass decreases as it melts more than it rebuilds. Our destination is the Reindeer Glacier, which rises like an ice wall up to 60 meters high and offers a striking contrast between land and ice.
The name "Reindeer Glacier" comes from the frequent sightings of reindeer, but even without these animals, this place is a world-class spectacle. It offers a variety of photo opportunities and a tranquility that impressively highlights the untouched, pristine beauty of nature. The journey to one of the region's most remarkable glaciers is made by tundra bus, a four-wheel drive vehicle suitable for the rocky and varied terrain and gravel roads.
Along the way, you can keep an eye out for the area's wildlife, especially reindeer and musk oxen, while listening to our tour guide's stories about the region's history and legends.
During the warm summer months, glaciers become increasingly thin and unstable within the colossal ice walls. These structures can suddenly calve and break, so it is important to keep a safe distance from the ice giants. After about a 90-minute drive, you will reach the magnificent Reindeer Glacier. Here you can hike along the edge of the glacier from the waterfall and photograph the landscape from different angles, or simply enjoy the grandeur and silence, interrupted only by the sound of melting ice.
The area is equipped with around twenty benches with tables and simple but practical portable toilets. These are available for those who need them. After spending enough time at the fascinating glacier, you leave this unique natural environment untouched, magnificent, and unforgettable, just as you found it.
Note: Some versions of this excursion include a BBQ lunch at the Roklubben restaurant, which will be specified in your booking.

The photography coaches are always on hand to offer tips and advice—whether during Zodiac trips, shore excursions, or on deck. In addition, they offer ongoing presentations designed to help you best navigate the challenges of photography in the unique and unpredictable polar regions. The onboard coach also documents the expedition, which is then presented as a keepsake on a USB drive so that you can share your experiences with friends and family back home.
Intensive Photography Program Available starting in 2027
For experienced photographers, this intensive program offers the opportunity to work alongside a small group and an award-winning photography instructor. Daily excursions led by the instructor ensure that every photo opportunity is maximized and that participants’ photographic skills are developed in a targeted manner. Workshops and image reviews on board cover all aspects of image selection, artistic refinement, and post-processing of the photos.
