15 days (14 nights) Antarctic expedition from/to Ushuaia with Drake Passage, South Shetland Islands, Gerlach Strait, Antarctic Peninsula, and Antarctic Circle.

+++ Up to 25% early bird discount for new bookings made by September 30, 2026 +++

Surrounded by the bizarre snow-capped mountains of Antarctica, you will experience bays teeming with wildlife or kayak alongside enormous icebergs. The long, bright days are used to explore the animals and snow-covered landscape up close by Zodiac.

Your Antarctic expedition starts in Ushuaia, at the southernmost tip of Argentina, heading for Drake Passage. Along the Antarctic Peninsula, you will encounter bizarre snow and ice landscapes. Untouched bays and narrow channels are surrounded by huge snow-capped mountains. Glaciers and icebergs float in the water.

Visit the South Shetland Islands and Deception Island, an active volcano and abandoned whaling station. Your Antarctic expedition will take you further and further south to the Gerlach Strait and the Lemaire Channel with its pristine bays and snowy landscapes. Animal lovers will be in their element here, as the Arctic ice landscapes are home to whales, seals, and huge penguin colonies.

On this expedition cruise , you will venture even further south to the Arctic Circle. The landscape becomes even more bizarre, the weather more icy, and there are more and more icebergs to be seen in the sea.

As a special highlight, I recommend that you sign up for the sea kayaking tour or camping in Antarctica (subject to a fee) when you book. Those interested in photography can also take part in various photo tours with an expert.

itinerary

Day 1: Ushuaia, Argentina
Welcome to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and the starting point of your expedition cruise. The first night will be spent at a hotel in Ushuaia (included in the tour price). After check-in, the rest of the day is yours to spend at your leisure. Explore this lively town, which is the starting point for many expedition cruises.

Day 2: Embarkation in Ushuaia
In the afternoon, group transfer to the pier and embarkation on your comfortable expedition ship, the MS Sea Spirit. The friendly crew will welcome you aboard! Be on deck when the ship departs and watch the houses disappear in the distance, replaced by the beautiful landscape of the Beagle Channel. With a little luck, you may spot your first seals and whales.

Days 3-4: Crossing the Drake Passage
After sailing through the Beagle Channel along Tierra del Fuego, the MS Sea Spirit now heads south through the famous Drake Passage. Seabirds such as the magnificent albatross can be spotted from the outer decks. You will cross the Antarctic convergence zone, which marks the transition to colder waters. The ship's stabilizers provide additional comfort should the sea become a little rough. Information, introductions, and lectures from the expedition team will prepare you for your arrival in Antarctica.

Days 5-12: South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula
This is undoubtedly one of the most authentic expedition cruises! The route in Antarctica depends heavily on the weather and ice conditions. Your experienced captain and expedition leader will determine the route on a daily basis and plan according to local conditions in order to offer the best expedition experience. The long, bright days are used to explore the wildlife and incredible landscape, both on land and by Zodiac. The Antarctic Peninsula region is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Sheltered bays and narrow channels are surrounded by high, snow-capped mountains. Glaciers reach the sea and icebergs of all sizes and shapes float in the water.

The cold water provides an ideal habitat for krill, whales, and many species of seals. Penguins populate large colonies and can also be observed in the sea. Several research stations also offer the opportunity to visit, and you can often send a postcard from here. The South Shetland Islands are the northernmost island group in Antarctica and will probably be the first land you see. This beautiful chain of islands offers landing sites with high biodiversity and historical significance. Among other things, Deception Island is located here; an active volcano whose caldera is flooded and houses the remains of an abandoned whaling station.

Further south of the Antarctic Peninsula, you will find the Gerlach Strait with interesting, often wind-protected bays rich in wildlife and unforgettable scenery. Names such as Paradise Bay sum it up perfectly, as they reveal glacier-covered mountains, large icebergs, whales searching for food, seals on ice floes, and bustling penguin colonies. South of Gerlach Strait lies the famous Lemaire Channel. The narrow, beautifully situated channel is also called "Kodak Gap" because of the vast number of photos taken here.

On this special journey, you will venture even further south and, with a little luck, reach the Antarctic Circle! The landscape changes, the weather becomes more "Antarctic," and there is more and more ice to be seen in the sea. Welcome to the expedition cruise! Your days in Antarctica will be filled with unforgettable landings, as well as presentations and lectures by the accompanying team of experts, who will deepen your impressions of this unique region.

Days 13-14: Crossing the Drake Passage
After a fascinating time in Antarctica, you will now cross the Drake Passage once again. Lectures and workshops by the expedition team and the cozy stay on board will make the days fly by. Enjoy a review of the trip with the photographer's slide show and share your experiences with new friends.

Day 15: Disembarkation in Ushuaia, Argentina
After an early arrival in Ushuaia and breakfast, it's time to say goodbye. A group transfer will take you to the airport or city center, depending on your preference. You will take home unforgettable memories and perhaps already start planning your return to the polar regions!

The daily programs described here are for your guidance. The itinerary may vary considerably due to local ice and weather conditions, last-minute permit procedures, and local authorities, but also to respond to current conditions regarding wildlife viewing.Theexpedition leader on board will determine the final itinerary and daily program. Flexibility is of utmost importance during our expedition-style voyages.
