What makes this trip special is that 95 percent of the crew are from the Galapagos Islands. Your guides know every bay, every breeding habit, every hidden viewpoint. They not only show you where blue-footed boobies nest or giant tortoises graze—they also explain connections, share personal stories, and open up perspectives that only locals can convey.

itinerary
Advance information
Your arrival and departure to Baltra Island are not included in your travel price.
Since our customers all have individual wishes for their trip, we are happy to book flights separately. Of course, the flights then become part of a secure package tour. Before flying to Baltra Island (Seymour Airport) on day 1 of this trip, we recommend spending the night in Quito or Guayaquil to cushion any irregularities with your international flight or lost luggage. We are happy to organize everything for you on request. Please contact us.
Day 1: Embarkation on Baltra Island & Bachas Beach on Santa Cruz Island
After a warm welcome at the airport, you will be transferred to the MS Endemic.
In the afternoon, visit Las Bachas, a beautiful white sand beach on the north coast of Santa Cruz Island. Here you can take a relaxing walk or snorkel in the gentle surf. Sea turtles lay their eggs at the edge of the vegetation. Keep an eye out for a rusty pontoon, a relic from World War II. Incidentally, the name "Bachas" comes from a mispronunciation of "barges." Two of these barges were shipwrecked off the coast at that time.
Activities: Snorkeling, walking
Day 2: El Barranco & Bahía Darwin, Genovesa Island
In the morning, you will visit Darwin Bay, the only sandy beach within the Genovesa caldera. Colonies of magnificent frigatebirds live along the beach. With a little luck, you will see males inflating their bright red throat pouches to impress the females and find a mate.
Red-footed boobies nest in the trees on Genovesa Island, unlike the other two species of booby, which build their nests on the ground.
In the afternoon, we will visit El Barranco (Prince Philip's Steps), a staircase carved into the rock. This leads you up to a spacious plateau where you can observe large colonies of masked boobies, frigatebirds, storm petrels, and ducks. During this leisurely walk, you will pass through a small Scalesia forest, the habitat of the marsh owl. The same path will then take you back to the ship.
Activities: Walk (2 km)
Day 3: Santa Cruz Island & Sullivan Bay, Santiago Island
In the highlands of Santa Cruz, you will have the opportunity to see the famousGalapagos giant tortoises in the wild. These endemic animals are so well known that they gave the entire archipelago its name. The highlands of Santa Cruz are also an excellent place for bird watching, as numerous species of finches and other Galapagos birds live here.
Activities: Short walk
In the afternoon, you will visit Sullivan Bay on the east coast of Santiago Island. You will go ashore on a white coral sand beach and hike across lava fields that were formed less than 100 years ago. This is the perfect place to experience the volcanic origins of the Galapagos Islands up close and explore the surprisingly diverse flora of the lava fields.
Activities: 1–1.5 hour hike
Day 4: Sierra Negra Volcano & Turtle Breeding Station on Isabela Island
With an area of 4,588 square kilometers, Isabela is the largest island in the archipelago. It accounts for more than half of the total land area of the Galapagos Islands.
This is also the location of the Sierra Negra volcano, which, with a diameter of five kilometers, is one of the largest craters in the archipelago. It offers fascinating views with impressive color contrasts between lava fields, vegetation, and fumaroles.
Activities: Hiking
After lunch, visit the Arnaldo Tupiza breeding station on Isabela. Here you can observe young and adolescent giant tortoises being prepared for their return to the wild.
On the way back to the ship, keep an eye out for flamingos and other water birds.
Activities: Walk
Day 5: Elizabeth Bay & Urbina Bay on Isabela Island
In the morning, discover Elizabeth Bay on a Zodiac excursion. Your trip begins with a visit to the Marielas Islands, home to the largest and most important penguin colony in the Galapagos Islands. Then you will continue to the bay, which is lined with red mangroves. Here you can observe sea turtles, flightless cormorants, spotted eagle rays, golden rays, brown pelicans, and sea lions.
Activities: 2-hour Zodiac ride
In the afternoon, you will visit Urbina Bay. Here you will see coral formations and large, colorful land iguanas. There is an excellent chance of spotting giant tortoises, flightless cormorants, blue-footed boobies, penguins, and marine iguanas.
Activities: snorkeling, rubber dinghy trip, and hike with a choice of 1 or 3 km routes
Day 6: Tagus Cove, Isabela Island & Punta Espinoza, Fernandina Island
After breakfast, Tagus Cove is first on the agenda today. A dinghy ride along the cliffs offers you a good chance to see Galapagos penguins, flightless cormorants, and other seabirds. From the jetty, a 30-minute hike leads up to the cliff, from where you can overlook Darwin Lake – a salt lake that is saltier than the sea. From this vantage point, you can also see several volcanoes.
Activities: Hiking
After lunch, you will visit Punta Espinoza on Fernandina Island. You will find yourself in the middle of an impressive lava landscape with lava cacti. Mangroves thrive on the lava surface. Highlights include sea lions, penguins, flightless cormorants (especially in spring and summer), and one of the largest iguana colonies in the Galapagos Islands.
Activities: Hike (2 km)
Day 7: Buccaneer Cove/Espumilla Beach, Santiago Island & Rabida Island
In the morning, explore Buccaneer Cove, located north of James Bay. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it served as a safe haven for pirates to hide their loot, take on fresh water, and catch turtles for food. The location is ideal for dinghy trips, snorkeling, and kayaking. In the sky, you can observe blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, sea lions, and Galapagos hawks.
Alternatively, visit Espumilla Beach. This pristine sandy beach is often home to marine iguanas and red rock crabs, which in turn attract hunting herons. Thanks to the species-rich underwater world with octopuses, moray eels, and sharks, snorkeling here is definitely worthwhile.
Activities: rubber dinghy trips, snorkeling, and kayaking
In the afternoon, you will continue on to Rabida Island. The main attraction here is the red sand beach, famous for its cactus groves and impressive rock formations, as well as the species-rich vegetation of the dry zone. On a walk along the red sand beach, you will discover brown pelican nests and a lagoon where flamingos can occasionally be seen.
Activities: Hiking, swimming
Day 8: Mosquera Islet & Disembarkation
In the morning, you will visit Mosquera, a small islet between the islands of Baltra and North Seymour. Lava gulls, sea lions, and red rock crabs inhabit this sandbank, which is over 600 meters long. It is also home to the largest sea lion population, and depending on the season, you may even spot orcas.
Activities: Easy walk
After saying goodbye to the MS Endemic, this last shore excursion is followed by the transfer to Baltra Airport.
PLEASE NOTE: The daily programs described here are for your guidance only. The itinerary may vary due to local weather conditions, last-minute permit procedures, and organizational requirements. The expedition leader on board will determine the final itinerary and daily program. Flexibility is of utmost importance during our expedition-style voyages.
