66°33′ South: You have reached the Antarctic Circle.
The very word "Arctic Circle" has a wonderful, adventurous ring to it.
The journey to the southern Arctic Circle can only be attempted during a very short period of the year. It is only towards the end of the Antarctic summer that the ice masses have thawed sufficiently for ships to travel to this region.
You will be among the few people worldwide who have traveled to this magical point at 66° 33´ south latitude.
The English navigator James Cook was the first to venture so far into the Southern Ocean in the 18th century that he crossed the Antarctic Circle several times. After him, no one ventured so far south for 150 years.
