The jaguar is the king of the rainforest! If there is one place where you are most likely to see this majestic big cat, it is the UNESCO-protected Pantanal Biosphere Reserve in the heart of Brazil – the best place in the world to see jaguars in the wild. Here you will embark on a comfortable 7-day boutique ship safari with the exclusively chartered MS Peralta. In a pleasant atmosphere and well looked after by your specialized tour guide, you will explore the incredibly diverse ecosystems of the Pantanal. Look forward to varied excursions and excellent conditions for spotting jaguars, caimans, howler monkeys, anteaters, and more than 650 species of birds. Bonito, with its waterfalls, caves, and exceptionally clear rivers, is also a real insider tip.

itinerary

Day 1 Flight via Sao Paulo to Cuiabá
Day 2 Welcome to Brazil!
Arrival in Cuiabá, the starting point for your upcoming adventure in the Pantanal (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Your German-speaking tour guide will welcome you at the airport and drive you to your centrally located comfort hotel. In the afternoon, you can explore the capital of the province of Mato Grosso on foot. (D)
Day 3 Pantanal: UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
Take the Transpantaneira to Porto Jofre, the hotspot for jaguars, where you will spend seven days and six nights in your cabin on the exclusively chartered small ship MS Peralta. Extremely lush biodiversity: three words that best describe the superlative nature of the Pantanal. In 2000, UNESCO declared the Pantanal one of the world's most important biospheres with optimal conditions for wildlife viewing. The scenery is unique in the world – an incredible mix of diverse ecosystems that combines a wide variety of landscapes: savannas, flooded plains, Amazonian forests, jungles, and steppes. No wonder the Pantaneiros call their land the Garden of Eden. The Pantanal is the largest nature reserve in South America. It is home to numerous mammal species, including big cats such as jaguars and ocelots. It is also home to spectacled caimans, anacondas, tapirs, anteaters, giant otters, and capybaras, the largest rodents in the world. Capuchin and howler monkeys are often encountered. With more than 650 species, the bird population is one of the most fascinating on our planet. Large and small, colorful and noisy representatives of the bird world can be encountered here – a magnificent spectacle! Hyacinth macaws, for example, are almost extinct in other parts of Brazil, but can be observed regularly in the Pantanal. You will go on a variety of excursions every day. One of the highlights of your safari in the Porto Jofre area is watching jaguars, which like to scour the riverbanks in search of their favorite prey, capybaras and caimans. When it is very hot, the big cats often rest in the shade of the trees or go for a swim in the cool water. The chances of a successful sighting are good, but of course you will also discover a variety of other animal species that live in the Pantanal. A keen eye, a flashlight for nighttime adventures, and binoculars for daytime observations – that's all you need to capture incredibly exciting impressions from this animal paradise. (FMA)

Day 9 From the Pantanal to Bonito
After lunch, continue to Bonito and arrive at your lodge. Waterfalls are a striking feature of the landscape here. Parque das Cachoeiras is a natural oasis with no fewer than seven waterfalls, each with its own unique charm. (FMA)
Day 10 Bonito
Today, a unique snorkeling experience awaits you at the Rio da Prata ecological refuge! With professional snorkeling equipment, you will float in the crystal-clear waters of the Olho D'Agua River with a gentle current to the Rio da Prata, discovering fabulous fish species in a lush underwater plant world. Afterwards, take a walk and marvel at the diverse flora and fauna of a gallery forest. Very close to the Rio da Prata is a cave whose collapse created a gigantic crater 124 m deep and 500 m wide! The beautiful scarlet macaw and countless other bird species have chosen this place to nest. When the birds return at dusk, you have the opportunity to admire them up close. The lake at the bottom of the crater also has its inhabitants: caimans frolic here. (FMA)
Day 11 Bonito
The city of Bonito in the heart of Brazil is a natural gem that enchants travelers from all over the world. Today, you will discover the fascinating underworld of the impressive São Miguel stalactite cave. A walk across a 200-meter suspension bridge takes you through the treetops of the forest to the entrance of the cave. Birds such as trogons, tanagers, and macaws, as well as other wildlife, can often be seen here. In the afternoon, you will embark on an unforgettable trip on the Sucuri River. Your journey begins with a picturesque boat tour to the Hacienda São Geraldo, which offers insights into the diverse flora and fauna of the region along the way. While snorkeling, you can enjoy the beauty of the underwater world and encounter a variety of colorful fish species in the crystal-clear water. (FM)
Day 12 Return flight to Germany
Flight via Sao Paulo to Frankfurt. If you have a little more time, we recommend an extension trip to Salvador da Bahía and Praia do Forte (travel IDs: 2393, 2394). (F)
