Day 1: Saigon – My Tho – Tan Phong Island (Cai Be)

In the morning, you’ll be greeted in Saigon and taken to My Tho, where your floating home for the next few days is already waiting for you. After boarding and settling into your cabin, you’ll enjoy lunch on board. You’ll then get to know the ship and crew during a welcome and safety briefing. In the afternoon, your cruise on the Mekong begins. Relax on deck and watch the bustling activity along the riverbanks. At sunset, the cruise management invites you to a small reception with canapés and Prosecco. After dinner, the ship will anchor near Tan Phong Island, off Cai Be. (MA)

Day 2: Tan Phong Island – Sa Dec – Gieng Island

After breakfast, you’ll first explore Cai Be, where traditional Mekong Delta specialties are produced. During a visit to a local workshop, you’ll gain insight into the production of rice paper, rice crackers, rice wine, and coconut sweets. Afterward, you’ll head to Tan Phong Island. There, you’ll visit a tropical fruit orchard, sample regional fruits, and learn about the daily lives of the islanders. Another stop is a family that creates intricate woven crafts from water hyacinths. (FMA) Optional Culinary Tour At a local family’s home, you’ll learn how to prepare traditional jackfruit leaf cakes. From processing the leaves to steaming the cakes, you’ll experience the entire production process and then enjoy your creation with coconut dip and ginger tea. Optional Bike Tour: A bike ride across Tan Phong Island through fruit orchards with rambutan, longan, and jackfruit trees. Along the way, you’ll visit a craft workshop and a local temple. (approx. 12 km) In the afternoon, you’ll arrive in Sa Dec. During a walking tour, you’ll explore the lively market, visit the historic house of Huynh Thuy Le—known from the novel *The Lover*—and the Chinese pagoda Kien An Cung. Optional bike tour: A bike tour through Sa Dec, including visits to the flower market, traditional nurseries, and the Cao Dai Temple. (approx. 15 km)

Day 3: Gieng Island – Border Crossing – Phnom Penh

In the morning, you’ll explore Gieng Island, also known as “Mango Island.” You’ll stroll through mango plantations, visit an incense factory, and tour a traditional boat yard. Enjoy fresh mangoes and tea with a local family. Optional culinary tour (Jayavarman only) Together with a local family, you’ll prepare “Banh In,” a traditional dessert made from glutinous rice flour and sugar that is often served at Vietnamese festivals. Optional bike tour: Bike through mango plantations and small villages, visiting local craft workshops. (approx. 15 km) In the afternoon, you can take part in a Vietnamese cooking class on board or enjoy the passing scenery as the ship crosses the border into Cambodia and sails overnight to Phnom Penh. Day 4: Phnom Penh

Today you’ll explore Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. You’ll ride through the city in traditional cyclos and visit the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda, and the former S21 prison, a reminder of the Khmer Rouge era. After lunch, you’ll visit an art academy and watch young dancers rehearsing the traditional Apsara dance. Afterward, a walk through the colonial quarter will take you to Wat Phnom. In the evening, eyewitness Sum Rithy will share his experiences during the Khmer Rouge regime. The day concludes with a festive gala dinner featuring a traditional Apsara dance performance. (FMA)

Day 5: Phnom Penh – Kampong Tralach – Kampong Leaeng – Kampong Luong

Early in the morning, the ship sails north on the Tonle River. In Kampong Tralach, you’ll experience rural Cambodia on a ride in a traditional oxcart through green rice fields. You’ll visit either a school and library project or a temple over 300 years old. Optional bike tour: A bike ride through the Tonle region to the former royal city of Lungvek and the Jade Buddha Temple, dating from 1560. (approx. 14 km) In the afternoon, you’ll arrive in Kampong Leaeng. You’ll explore the rural region by tuk-tuk, visiting pottery-making families and a temple from the pre-Khmer period. From a lookout point, enjoy sweeping views of rice fields and floodplains. Optional culinary tour (Jayavarman only) Join a local family for a demonstration on how to make “Nom Kruak,” a traditional Cambodian rice cake often served as a snack. Optional bike tour: Ride through rice fields and villages, visiting small pottery workshops and palm sugar producers. (approx. 17 km) The ship will anchor overnight in Kampong Luong. (FMA)

Day 6: Kampong Luong – Prek Bangkong – Angkor Ban

In the morning, you’ll visit Kampong Luong, a well-known silversmithing village. Here, you’ll watch as jewelry and handicrafts are made from silver, copper, and brass. Afterward, you’ll tour the royal temple Wat Prang and gain insight into Buddhist life in the region. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive in Prek Bangkong, a traditional silk-weaving village. Here, you’ll learn more about silk production and visit the historic home of Sam-El, a renowned architect to the royal family. Optional bike tour: A bike ride to the former royal palace of Lavea Em, passing pagodas, silk weaving workshops, and local markets. (approx. 14 km) In the evening, the ship continues its journey down the Mekong River toward Angkor Ban. (FMA)

Day 7: Angkor Ban – Kampong Cham

The day begins with a visit to the village of Angkor Ban. You’ll stroll through the traditional village, visit the monastery, and chat with the locals. In the process, you’ll gain authentic insights into everyday life in rural Cambodia. Optional Culinary Tour In addition to the village visit, you’ll prepare the traditional soup “Samlor Korko” together with a local family—a Cambodian national dish made with fish, vegetables, herbs, and roasted rice. It’s served with a duck egg omelet. Optional Bike Tour: A bike ride through vegetable fields and traditional villages, with stops at blacksmiths’ shops and local artisans’ workshops. (approx. 10 km) In the afternoon, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere on board. Those who wish can participate in another culinary workshop or simply enjoy their final hours on the Mekong. The farewell dinner takes place in the evening. (FMA)

Day 8: Kampong Cham – Siem Reap

Disembarkation takes place after breakfast. You will then travel through the Cambodian province to Siem Reap. During the approximately four-hour drive, you’ll learn interesting facts about the country, its people, and its history. Your Mekong cruise ends upon arrival in Siem Reap. (B)

7 optional bike tours (€600) h4. Optional Bike Tours Guests who wish to explore the destination more actively can venture “off the beaten path” to get to know the countryside, the people, and interesting local sights. The bike tours are led by a local, English-speaking tour guide. Professional bicycles, safety equipment, and refreshments during the tour are provided. The bike tours are conducted mostly on small, paved paths to allow for a deep immersion in local life. The average route lengths range from 10 to 20 km on mostly flat terrain and require a minimal level of fitness. The bike tours are conducted in small groups of at least two and no more than six guests and must be booked as an add-on to the cruise. On this cruise, a total of eight bike tours are offered as a package for €600 per person. All bike tours replace the standard group excursions.
