The Plancius was built in 1976 and served as an oceanographic research vessel for the Royal Netherlands Navy. In 2009, the ship underwent a complete renovation and has been used for expedition cruises to the Arctic and Antarctic since 2010.

The ship has a restaurant/lecture room and a spacious panoramic lounge with a bar and library on deck 5. There is plenty of deck space for observing nature and wildlife. The Plancius can accommodate 108 passengers in 50 cabins, all of which have their own shower and toilet. The crew consists of 53 international crew members, including a doctor. A relaxed, uncomplicated atmosphere and a professional and very experienced expedition team contribute to the success of your trip. In addition to the Zodiac inflatable boats, kayaks are also available on board.
