This catamaran expedition through the Great Bear Rainforest shows you the quietest side of Canada with the largest contiguous coastal rainforest in the world. On board the comfortable catamaran with spacious cabins and generous viewing platforms, you will feel particularly close to nature. In the fall, when the salmon return, a spectacular natural spectacle begins: grizzly mothers with their cubs and the rare white ghost bears fish in the crystal-clear river, while whales and other marine mammals enjoy the rich food supply further out at sea.

Every day on the Cascadia slows down, but also offers new experiences against a backdrop of magnificent natural scenery: you can go kayaking along unspoiled coastlines and bathe in hot springs. With a little luck, you may even spot wolves in one of the most unspoiled regions in the world.

itinerary
Advance information
Your arrival and departure to/from Kitimat are not included in your travel price.
Since our customers all have individual wishes for their trip, we are happy to book flights separately. Of course, the flights then become part of a secure package tour. We recommend an overnight stay in Kitimat to cushion any irregularities with your flight or lost luggage. We are happy to organize everything for you on request. Please contact us.
Day 1: Haisla Territory
After departing Kitimat, the Cascadia will cruise toward the bay where your ship will anchor for the night. Keep an eye out for whales. Before dinner, take a walk through the rainforest.
Day 2: Hennaksiala Territory
Today, you will reach the territory of the Hennaksiala —accompanied by the stories of Wa'xaid (Cecil Paul), the elder of the Orca Clan.
You will travel through a spectacular fjord, where towering granite mountains rise up from the depths of the sea. Along the way, you will enjoy views of rushing waterfalls —and, with a little luck, mountain goats.
Explore the meadows around a river mouth where grizzly bears spend their days in autumn. In the evening, you have the option of going on a kayak tour.
Day 3: Encounters with grizzly bears
You continue to cruise through the island channels of the Great Bear Rainforest. In the middle of the fjords, the chances of seeing grizzly bears are very good at this time of year.
You will also learn more about the indigenous history surrounding the special sites in this region.
Day 4: Spirit Bear Island
Today, you will spend the day on an island observing rare ghost bears. Together with guides from the Gitga'at community , you will keep your eyes peeled at a selected observation spot.
Day 5: Whale watching
Today, the Cascadia cruises through the Whale Channel region, an important habitat for several species of whales. There you can observe marine mammals in their natural environment and visit researchers who study whales at a remote station.
Towards evening, your ship anchors in a sheltered island bay.
Day 6: To the outer islands of the Great Bear Rainforest
Today, you will visit the wild outer islands and beaches of the Great Bear Rainforest, where you will hike to fantastic viewpoints, among other things. Kayaking is also on the agenda, and with a little luck, you may even see wolves.
You will cruise through an archipelago of tiny islands, some of which are so untouched that they have not yet been mapped. Along the way, you will observe numerous species of seabirds.
Day 7: Through the inner channels & to hot springs
On the penultimate day of your catamaran expedition through the Great Bear Rainforest, you will explore the inner channels and coastline of the rainforest. You will also reach natural hot springs that invite you to bathe and relax. On the last evening, you will enjoy dinner in an idyllic bay.
Day 8: Back to Kitimat
On the final leg back to Kitimat Harbor, keep an eye out for wildlife. With your last views of the coast and the ocean, bid farewell to the Great Bear Rainforest.
If you would like to extend your stay in Canada, please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss extension options!
PLEASE NOTE: The daily programs described here are for your guidance only. The itinerary may vary due to local weather conditions, last-minute permit procedures, and organizational requirements. The expedition leader on board will determine the final itinerary and daily program. Flexibility is of utmost importance during our expedition-style voyages.
