On this journey, you’ll be pioneers breaking new ground: there has never been a comprehensive train journey across the Arabian Peninsula! Yes, the itinerary may be subject to change if train schedules are revised, but in return, you’ll experience four Arab countries in one trip in a truly unique way. The focus is on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which until recently had almost completely isolated itself from the outside world. Ultra-modern Dubai and ancient Petra, the historic Hejaz Railway and the high-tech express train, desert castles and skyscrapers—a trip to the Orient couldn’t be more full of contrasts!

Day 1: Flight to Dubai

(If you booked without flights, your trip begins on Day 2) (A)

Day 2: Wonders of Dubai

After arriving in Dubai in the morning, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Then you’ll head to the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building at 830 m—from here, you’ll look out over the skyline all the way to the Persian Gulf. Afterward, you’ll pass by Jumeirah Beach, stop at the Burj Al Arab, and take a stroll through the modern marina. You’ll discover the city’s traditional side at the Spice and Gold Souks and on a boat ride along Dubai Creek. In the evening, you’ll enjoy dinner together at the hotel. (FA)

Day 3: Abu Dhabi

Today, you’ll travel about 140 km along the coast of the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Abu Dhabi on a modern high-speed train. Here, you’ll visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and immerse yourself in a world of art and spectacular architecture at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. From the Breakwater, you’ll enjoy the view of the glittering skyline. In the evening, you’ll fly on to Bahrain. (FA)

Day 4: The Kingdom of Bahrain and Departure for Saudi Arabia

In the morning, you’ll explore the highlights of Bahrain’s capital. You’ll visit the Al Fateh Grand Mosque, the Bahrain National Museum, and the Muharraq Souq. In the afternoon, you’ll cross the King Fahd Causeway, the bridge connecting Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. You’ll spend the night in Al Khobar. (FA)

Day 5: From the Persian Gulf to the Al Ahsa Oasis

After breakfast, you’ll begin exploring Dammam-Al Khobar. You’ll drive along the Corniche on the Persian Gulf and see the Al Khobar Water Tower, one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks. Afterward, you’ll visit the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture. In the afternoon, you’ll continue your journey by train to Hofuf. The trip takes you to Al Ahsa, one of the largest oases in the world. (B)

Day 6: From the "Green Wonder" in the Desert to Riyadh

Today you’ll explore Hofuf, the center of the Al Ahsa Oasis. You’ll visit Fort Ibrahim and its mosque. Afterward, the route takes you to Jabal Qarah, a table mountain with bizarre caves and gorges. In the late afternoon, you’ll take the train to Riyadh. (FA)

Day 7: Riyadh: A Metropolis in Transition

You’ll travel to the suburb of Diriyah and visit the historic mud-brick settlement of At-Turaif (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the cradle of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Al Saud dynasty. As you continue your journey, you’ll see the King Abdullah Financial District, one of the country’s most ambitious urban development projects. You’ll ride the state-of-the-art metro and explore the old town of ad-Dira, including Masmak Fort. To conclude, you’ll enjoy modern views of Riyadh, including from the Skybridge at the Kingdom Center, which offers a view over the seemingly endless metropolis. (FA)

Day 8: Through the Desert

On your train journey to Hail, barren desert and steppe landscapes will pass by. During a walking tour, you’ll see historic buildings, including Fort A’arif and the Barzan and Al Qishlah palaces. (FA)

Day 9: Rock Art in the Nefud Desert and Drive to Al Ula

Today you’ll drive through the Nefud Desert to Jubbah. Surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs, you’ll discover one of the most significant sites of prehistoric rock art on the Arabian Peninsula. At Jebel Umm Sanman, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, petroglyphs and inscriptions dating back as far as 10,000 years tell the story of early cultures. In the late afternoon, you’ll reach the Al Ula oasis. You’ll check into your resort, where you’ll stay for the next two nights and wind down the day in a relaxed atmosphere. (FA)

Day 10: Nabataean Tombs and Natural Wonders of the Desert

The oasis landscape of Al Ula is considered Saudi Arabia’s archaeological treasure trove. A highlight of the day is the excursion to Mada’in Saleh, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this spectacular sandstone landscape, you’ll discover over 130 monumental Nabataean rock-cut tombs—artfully crafted and of impressive size. In the afternoon, you’ll drive to the monumental Elephant Rock, which rises from the sand like a stone sculpture. (FA)

Day 11: Through Wadi Al-Disah

On your way toward the Jordanian border, you’ll reach Wadi Al-Disah, one of Saudi Arabia’s most impressive natural areas. In this 25-kilometer-long valley, you’ll discover a surprisingly lush oasis landscape: sandy riverbeds, shady palm trees, and clear freshwater streams form a striking contrast to the red sandstone cliffs. The journey continues to Al-Bad, where you’ll visit the Nabataean rock-cut tombs. After crossing the border into Jordan, you’ll continue on to Aqaba on the Red Sea. (FPA)

Day 12: UNESCO World Heritage Site Petra – A Wonder of the World in Rosy Red

Today, you’ll spend the entire day exploring the legendary rock-cut city of Petra, one of the most fascinating places on Earth. Take your time exploring this rose-red ancient wonderland of towers, cave tombs, colonnaded streets, and temples! (FA)

Day 13: Desert Landscapes, the Historic Hejaz Railway, and the Dead Sea

After saying goodbye to Petra, your journey first takes you to the vast desert landscape of Wadi Rum. The bizarre rock formations and open plains provide the backdrop for a very special experience: a ride on a historic train of the Jordan Hejaz Railway. You’ll then continue on to the imposing Crusader castle of Kerak, which towers high above the surrounding area. In the evening, you’ll reach the Dead Sea. Amid the extraordinary landscape at the lowest point on Earth, you’ll check into your hotel room and enjoy the tranquility of this unique place. Our recommendation for a particularly relaxing end to your trip: extend your stay at the deluxe resort on the Dead Sea by a few days. (FA)
