On this journey, you’ll be pioneers breaking new ground: there has never been a comprehensive train journey across the Arabian Peninsula! Yes, the itinerary may be subject to change if train schedules are revised, but in return, you’ll experience four Arab countries in one trip in a truly unique way. The focus is on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which until recently had almost completely isolated itself from the outside world. Ultra-modern Dubai and ancient Petra, the historic Hejaz Railway and the high-tech express train, desert castles and skyscrapers—a trip to the Orient couldn’t be more full of contrasts!

Day 1: Flight to Dubai

Day 2: Wonders of Dubai

Arrive early in the morning and transfer to your comfortable hotel. Dubai is a metropolis on the fast track. We’ll start right away with a highlight: From the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa—at 830 m, the world’s tallest building—you’ll gaze out over the skyline all the way to the Persian Gulf. Afterward, you’ll pass Jumeirah Beach, stop at the Burj Al Arab, and stroll through the modern marina. You’ll discover the city’s traditional side at the Spice and Gold Souks and on a boat ride along Dubai Creek. (FA)

Day 3: Thrilling Race in Abu Dhabi

The new high-speed train takes you 140 km from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, running along the Persian Gulf the entire way. A short time later, gleaming race cars will zoom past you on the famous Formula 1 circuit on Yas Island. In addition to sports, the city is dedicated to the arts. You’ll see this for yourself when you visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Take one last look at the glittering skyline from the breakwater—and then enjoy the serene tranquility of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. (FA)

Day 4: Hofuf and the Al Ahsa Oasis

A short flight takes you from Abu Dhabi to Dammam, Saudi Arabia. This city of over a million people on the Persian Gulf is Saudi Arabia’s most important oil export port and the headquarters of Aramco, the world’s largest oil company. In the afternoon, you’ll take a trip to the old town of Hofuf with its imposing Qasr Ibrahim Fort and colorful souk. On the way, you’ll pass through Al Ahsa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, with 2.5 million palm trees, the largest oasis on Earth! You’ll spend the next two nights in Dammam at a comfortable hotel. Day 5: Bahrain, the Pearl of the Gulf

To the right and left, the sparkling blue of the Persian Gulf—even the drive from Dammam across the 25-km-long bridge to the island nation of Bahrain is an experience in itself! On a sightseeing tour of the capital, Manama, you’ll visit the magnificent Al Fateh Mosque, the National Museum, and the colorful souk. The tour continues to the coastal fortress of Bu Maher and the imposing Bahrain Fort. At a royal camel farm, you’ll come face to face with these precious “ships of the desert” before returning to Dammam in Saudi Arabia. (FA)

Day 6: Riyadh, the Capital

Today, you’ll travel 400 km across the desert to Riyadh on a modern express train. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the National Museum and enjoy the view from the 302-meter-high Kingdom Center. You’ll spend the next two nights in Riyadh at the Komfort Hotel. (FA)

Day 7: At the Cradle of the Kingdom

The day begins where the Saudi royal family has its roots: the 200-year-old desert fortress in the suburb of Dirijah was the country’s first capital. The sand-colored Al Masmak Fort also bears witness to the dynasty’s beginnings. (FA)

Day 8: Through the Desert

During your train ride from Riyadh to Hail, barren steppe and desert landscapes will pass by. From Hail, you’ll continue your journey by bus to Al Ula. You’ll arrive at your hotel late in the evening, where you’ll stay for two nights. (FA)

Day 9: The scent of frankincense and myrrh

The day begins with a stroll through the narrow alleys of the old town in the oasis of Al Ula. Next, we embark on a journey back in time to the world of the Nabataeans. The lion tombs carved into the rock bear witness to the wealth of the ancient trading city of Dadan. Right next door are the inscriptions and rock paintings of Jebel Ikmah, an open-air library. As if hundreds of sculptors had been at work, bizarre rock formations resemble mythical creatures, castles, giant mushrooms, and faces. (FA)

Day 10: Madain Saleh

Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site is Madain Saleh, the southern capital of the Nabataeans and the counterpart to Petra: 130 rock-cut tombs gleam in shades of red, copper, and ochre, bearing witness to prosperity and prosperity. In the late afternoon, you’ll take the bus back to the train station in Hail, where your final major train leg to the Jordanian border will begin after midnight. Tonight, you’ll spend the night on the train. (FA)

Day 11: In the Land of Desert Castles

In the morning, your train pulls into the Al Qurayyat station. From here, it’s just a stone’s throw to the Jordanian border. You’ll travel by bus through the vast, rocky desert, stopping along the way at mysterious desert castles. In the afternoon, the landscape becomes more mountainous; a sea of reddish-purple hilltops rises up. Welcome to the gateway to the magical rock city of Petra! You’ll spend the next two nights in Wadi Musa at a comfortable hotel. (FA)

Day 12: Wonders of the World in Rosarot

The rock-cut city of Petra is one of the most fascinating places on Earth: sandstone in every imaginable color, temple facades of incredible proportions, and countless unsolved mysteries. Today, you’ll explore this ancient wonderland of tower and cave tombs, colonnaded streets, temples, and theaters. (FA)

Day 13: The Legendary Hejaz Railway

Today you’ll leave Petra and soon arrive at the surreal desert landscape of Wadi Rum. Aboard a 100-year-old locomotive from the Jordan Hejaz Railway Company, you’ll embark on a journey through time. Along the way, Bedouins will reenact the era of the Arab Revolt surrounding Lawrence of Arabia for you. From Wadi Rum, you’ll travel by bus to the Crusader fortress of Kerak. You’ll spend the last night of your journey into the realm of 1,001 Nights at a deluxe resort on the Dead Sea. (FA)
