Day 1: From Edinburgh to the Highlands

Your train rolls northward across the spectacular Forth Bridge. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea as you glide past Arbroath, Montrose, and Aberdeen, finally arriving in Keith. Dinner and entertainment in the observation car round out your first day aboard the train. (D)

Day 2: Off to Kyle of Lochalsh

Head west to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. You’ll have lunch during your journey to Kyle of Lochalsh, along one of the most picturesque train routes in the UK. You’ll pass Achnasheen and Achnashellach Forest on your way to the highest point of the trip, Luib Summit. From there, the route descends to Strathcarron. Visit the magnificent Attadale Gardens or explore the picturesque village of Plockton on Loch Carron. Here, you also have the option of taking a boat tour. After a walk through the woods, a traditional welcome awaits you at the Plockton Hotel. On board your train, you’ll enjoy dinner, coffee, and liqueurs. (FMA)

Day 3: In the Highlands

Join your host for a refreshing early-morning walk across the bridge connecting the mainland to the Isle of Skye. As you enjoy breakfast, your train will already be gliding back toward Dingwall. Have your camera ready—the view across the bay is breathtaking! A shopping excursion awaits you during a stop in Garve. If you’d rather listen to stories from the Highlands, follow a storyteller on a walk toward Silver Bridge. You’ll enjoy lunch on board. In the afternoon, a visit to Ballindalloch Castle is on the program, where you can either take a tour of the estate or visit a very special distillery. Tonight, you’ll spend the night aboard your train in Boat of Garten on the private Strathspey Railway. After dinner, exciting Scottish stories await you. (FMA)

Day 4: Rothiemurchus Estate and Glamis Castle

After a short bus ride to the Rothiemurchus Estate in the heart of Cairngorms National Park, you can try your hand at clay pigeon shooting or fishing, or take a tour of the estate. You’ll enjoy lunch on board as you continue on toward Dunkeld. At Glamis Castle, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the childhood home of the beloved Queen Mum. Or you can explore the small town of Pitlochry and the Athol Distillery. In Scotland’s former capital, Perth, you’ll board your train again, where a gala dinner and entertainment await you. Overnight stay in Dundee aboard the train. (FMA)

Day 5: Goodbye, Royal Scotsman!

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board before the Royal Scotsman returns from Dundee to Edinburgh. (B)
