10-day train trip from Montréal to Toronto

North America

Canada

10 days

From Montréal’s French flair to Toronto’s Anglo-American vibrancy, eastern Canada is home to some of the country’s most fascinating cities. Each one is a chapter unto itself—with vibrant culture, history, and hospitality. Montréal exudes creative spirit, French savoir-vivre, and a wild heart that beats in its narrow alleys and street cafés. Québec City is like a journey back in time: the cobblestone Old Town, surrounded by city walls, exudes old-world European charm. Ottawa, the capital, combines political significance with regal composure, and Toronto, Canada’s largest city, impresses with its urban pulse, multicultural life, and dramatic skyline. Here, where French and British cultures blend, Canada reveals its urban side—diverse and welcoming.

HIGHLIGHTS

route

itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Montreal
Today you’ll fly from Frankfurt to Montréal, where your tour guide will welcome you and accompany you to your hotel. In the afternoon, a walking tour of the city will introduce you to Montréal’s sights, including the modern financial and shopping district and Vieux-Montréal, the charming old town. Amid enchanting cobblestone streets and historic buildings, you’ll clearly sense the city’s French flair.
Day 2: Montreal
Today is yours to spend as you wish. If you’d like, you can enjoy a boat ride on the St. Lawrence River and take in the impressive view of the Montreal skyline. Or you can take a day trip to the Laurentian Mountains, where varied hiking trails and fairytale-like villages such as Mont-Tremblant await you. Alternatively, you can admire an immersive light show at Notre Dame Basilica, which bathes the church’s Neo-Gothic architecture in mysterious hues. F
Day 3: From Montréal to Québec City
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you’ll head to the train station, where you’ll board a train to Québec City. Explore the charming alleyways on your own. If you’d like, you can take a guided tour of the magnificent Château Frontenac Hotel or marvel at the mighty roar of the Montmorency Falls. The Musée de la Civilisation chronicles the cultural history of the province of Québec and its Indigenous peoples, and is also worth a visit for its rotating exhibitions. F
Day 4: Québec City
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel to fuel up for today’s city tour of Québec City. Stroll along historic cobblestone streets beside the imposing city walls and learn fascinating facts about the city’s history. Marvel at the majestic Château Frontenac and enjoy the lively atmosphere at Place Royale, which has served as a backdrop for numerous film and TV productions. In the afternoon, a transfer will take you to the train station, where your train to Ottawa is already waiting for you. F
Day 5: Ottawa – Canada's Capital
Ottawa is located in the province of Ontario, right on the border with the province of Québec—no other city in Canada embodies bilingualism more than this one. On a city tour, explore Parliament Hill, among other sights, where imposing government buildings dominate the cityscape, their architecture strongly reminiscent of the British heritage. Passing by the popular National Arts Centre, which houses an opera house, a theater, and concert halls, the tour continues to the Byward Market. The afternoon is yours to spend at your leisure. If you’d like, you can visit one of the many museums or enjoy typical Canadian dishes on a food tour of the Byward Market (optional excursion). F
Day 6: Off to Toronto!
After breakfast, the final train ride of your trip awaits you. You’ll travel comfortably along Lake Ontario to Toronto. Soaring glass and concrete towers dominate the country’s commercial and financial center, contrasting with romantic parks, gardens, lakeside promenades, and relics of the past. You’ll explore all of this today on an in-depth city tour. A perfect photo opportunity awaits you at the charming Flat Iron Building, whose unique architecture offers a delightful contrast to the modern skyline. F
Day 7: Toronto and the Surrounding Area
Plan today’s activities according to your own preferences. Not far from Canada’s largest city lie Niagara Falls, which are undoubtedly among the world’s most famous and spectacular natural wonders. On a full-day excursion of your choice, marvel at the waters of the Niagara River as they thunder over a nearly 1,000-meter-wide and 55-meter-deep cliff into the depths below. F
Day 8: Toronto
You can spend your last day in Toronto however you like. Our recommendation: From the 553-meter-tall CN Tower, you’ll enjoy an endless panoramic view of the city, Lake Ontario, and the Toronto Islands. The brave can even venture out onto the tower’s glass floor! A trip to the Toronto Islands not only offers spectacular views of the city but also provides a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life in a peaceful natural setting. Perhaps you’d also like to immerse yourself in Canadian culture with a visit to the Toronto Blue Jays’ baseball stadium? F
Day 9: Au revoir!
Today it's time to say goodbye: A shuttle will take you to the airport in the late morning, where you'll board your return flight to Germany. F
Day 10: Arrival in Frankfurt
