Day 1 Flight to Manaus

Day 2 Manaus

You will arrive in Manaus around noon. Here you will stay in a comfortable hotel near the famous opera house.

Day 3 Two rivers – two colors

In the morning, you will explore the once glamorous metropolis of the rubber barons. The famous opera house, where world stars have performed, and the lovingly renovated old town streets bear witness to the splendor of the past. Back in the present, you can immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of the market hall and watch the typical Amazon boats being loaded and unloaded at the river port. The crew welcomes you aboard the newly built boutique ship MS Jangada, which will be your comfortable home for the next twelve nights. Shortly after departure, a magnificent natural spectacle awaits you: the black Rio Negro meets the light brown Amazon. Both colors flow side by side in the same riverbed for miles – without mixing! The rest of the afternoon is yours to settle into your cabin and gather your first impressions of life on the river on the sun deck. (FMA)

Day 4 Anamá and Rio Purus

Early in the morning, you will embark on a boat excursion to study the flora and fauna in the Anamá region. After visiting a village, the MS Jangada will continue its journey to the Rio Purus around noon. Colorful macaws, herons, and ibises circle above the treetops while you watch the fishermen engage in the strenuous task of catching giant catfish. As you continue on to the Rio Badajos, the everyday life of the colorful stilt villages on the great river passes you by. With a little luck, you may see pink river dolphins. (FMA)

Day 5 Rio Badajos

Early in the morning, you will take a boat trip. The bird life in this region is particularly rich in species. For example, the very rare, giant hornbill can be found here. Sloths, caimans, and the giant Victoria Amazonica water lily (depending on the season) are also frequently seen on the Rio Badajos. In the afternoon, you will take another boat trip to explore the flora and fauna of the rainforest. (FMA)

Day 6 Brazil nuts, cassava, and açaí

Overnight, your ship has reached the village of Via Lira. On a forest hike around the village, you will learn all about harvesting açaí berries, growing Brazil nuts, and processing cassava root. After returning on board, a lecture will explain the processing of açaí in detail. In the afternoon, on the way to Tefé, you will take another excursion on the excursion boats to discover some animals. (FMA)

Day 7: In the footsteps of the missionaries

The nucleus of Tefé, the largest town on your Amazon journey, is the 18th-century Salesian mission. The panoramic view from the monastery complex high above the brown river, which has been flowing sluggishly since time immemorial, is breathtaking! And the old monastery buildings, which are still in use today, contain many historical treasures. Then it's off to the fascinating Mamirauá National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the highlights of your trip. By motorized canoe and on foot, you will explore rainforest areas that are completely flooded for six months of the year and are home to unique flora and fauna. Perhaps you will spot the scarlet face of a uacari monkey or a large sloth in the treetops. But huge cormorant colonies, colorful parrots, and toucans also offer a spectacular sight. On a night excursion, you will also try to spot nocturnal animals and the diamond eyes of caimans. (FMA)

Day 8 Forest hike by canoe

Today, you will once again experience the fascination of the rainforest up close. Birds, monkeys, caimans – all within reach! Around noon, you will leave Mamirauá National Park and head west towards Fonte Boa. Enjoy the exotic everyday life on the river from aboard the ship. Fishermen cast their nets; children offer fruit and vegetables in small canoes. And people wave at you from hammocks on colorful Amazonian ships. Exciting lectures on board provide additional entertainment. (FMA)

Day 9 Let's get down to brass tacks

From Fonte Boa, you will take a boat trip to one of the small tributaries where the inhabitants live off the catch of the giant pirarucu fish. This fish, which can weigh up to 150 kg, is extremely tasty and is exported throughout Latin America. The MS Jangada then continues its journey upstream, where you will enjoy an exciting boat trip in the afternoon and then continue on to Jutai overnight. (FMA)

Day 10 At the end of the world

A boat trip takes you to the tributaries around Jutai in the morning. On a walk through the town, you will learn about the life of the Caboclos, as the people here are called. Then sit back and relax on the sun deck and enjoy the warm service on board. The MS Jangada travels through one of the most sparsely populated regions of the Amazon, with bizarre jungle giants on both sides. Again and again, you will see the dorsal fins of gray and pink river dolphins. A lecture will inform you about the world of the Ticuna, the most important indigenous people of the state of Amazonas. Day 11 Visiting the Ticuna village

Today, you will travel by motorboat through idyllic river branches to Bethania. In a ritual hut, you will experience the traditional Moça Nova initiation dance. Imaginative masks, black robes decorated with feathers and shells – welcome to the world of the Ticuna! After lunch surrounded by the lush green nature of the Rio Iça, you will return to your ship and continue your journey. Your destination for the day is Sao Paulo de Olivença. (FMA)

Day 12 Piranhas

In the morning, you will have the opportunity to go piranha fishing and swim in the river. There is plenty to discover on a varied boat tour on the Rio Camatiã. In the Ticuna village of Villa Lira, you will learn about the everyday life of the indigenous population in the afternoon. When the Amazon glows red and purple at sunset, the MS Jangada sets off on the last major stage of its Amazon journey. (FMA)

Day 13 Visiting the Jaguar Men

Today you will reach Brazil's last outpost on the border with Peru, the town of Benjamin Constant. Land vehicles will take you to the very secluded Matis and Marubo indigenous peoples. First, you will get to know the small village of the Marubo. After a jungle hike, you will meet the Matis, who have only had contact with the outside world for a few decades. During this meeting, you will learn about the indigenous people's way of life, hunting practices, and rituals. In the afternoon, the MS Jangada will have already arrived at the port of Tabatinga, and you will take a trip to the Peruvian town of Santa Rosa on the other side of the river. (FMA)

Day 14 In the border triangle

In the morning, after the usual hearty breakfast on board, you will explore the twin city of Leticia on foot. The capital of the Colombian Amazon province offers plenty of flair and an exciting ethnological museum. In the afternoon, it's time to pack your bags and take care of the formalities for leaving Brazil. (FMA)

Day 15 Farewell, Amazon River!

After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to your beautiful ship and its lovely crew. An incomparable journey into the completely unknown comes to an end. Transfer to Leticia Airport and return flight via Bogotá to Germany. (B)
