Your grand tour of Brazil begins in the evening with a flight from Frankfurt to Sao Paulo.

Welcome by your experienced tour guide at Sao Paulo airport and flight to Iguazú. Wider than Victoria Falls, higher than Niagara Falls, and undoubtedly more impressive than both, over 270 cascades plunge into the depths over a width of almost 3 km. Tropical birds and huge colorful butterflies add exotic splashes of color to the unique jungle landscape of the 2,000 km² Parque Nacional de Iguaçu, which UNESCO declared a World Heritage Site in 1986. In the afternoon, you will see the waterfalls in all their grandeur on the Brazilian side. You will spend the next two nights in a comfortable hotel near the national park.

Today, you will visit the Argentine side of the falls. Your tour winds along the rocks around the huge valley basin, allowing you to experience this untamed natural spectacle up close. You will walk across a footbridge to the main waterfall, aptly named Devil's Throat, where the masses of water plunge 90 meters right before your eyes. (B)

Fly to Cuiabá and drive to your lodge (approx. 2 hours), where you will spend the next three nights. Extremely lush biodiversity: three words that best describe the superlative nature of the Pantanal. In 2000, UNESCO declared the Pantanal one of the world's most important biospheres, offering optimal conditions for wildlife viewing. No wonder the Pantaneiros call their land the Garden of Eden. The Pantanal is the largest nature reserve in South America. Every day, you will go on a variety of excursions, which will be scheduled at short notice and depending on the weather. All these little adventures, such as horseback riding, jeep tours, river cruises, hikes, and photo safaris, are included in the tour price and will be accompanied by your German-speaking tour guide. It is home to numerous mammal species, including big cats such as jaguars and ocelots, spectacled caimans, anacondas, tapirs, anteaters, and capybaras, the largest rodents in the world. Morning flight to Brasilia, Brazil's postmodern capital. On a city tour, you will experience Brasilia with its futuristic architecture, which looks like something out of a science fiction film. In 1987, the city, built in the shape of an airplane, was designated a modern world heritage site by UNESCO. In particular, the signature style of world-renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer has given the Brazilian capital an avant-garde look with monuments, palaces, and memorials that are well worth seeing. Here you will stay in a centrally located, upscale mid-range hotel. (B)

Transfer to the airport. Flight to Manaus and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to spend at your leisure. Manaus is an extravaganza of urban design and offers exciting places and architectural gems from the heyday of the rubber boom. The jungle metropolis with its famous opera house is the only city in the world with over a million inhabitants that cannot be reached by land. Today you will stay in a centrally located comfort hotel. (F

In the morning, you will take a tour of the opera city on the Rio Negro. Among other things, you will visit the magnificent Teatro Amazonas, which reflects the former wealth of the city during the heyday of the rubber boom. In the early afternoon, you will board the MS Jangada, which will be your comfortable home for the next five nights. After a welcome drink, your tour guide will present the itinerary. Your ship will sail downstream to Encontro das Aguas, the confluence of the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões, as the Amazon is called here. The Rio Negro, black as espresso, and the Amazon, brown as latte macchiato, take over ten kilometers to merge their waters. Until then, they flow almost unmixed side by side in the same bed – one on the right, the other on the left. Giant trees and riverbanks shimmer in the colors of the rainforest. (FA)

The longest river on earth is an unpredictable diva. Its catchment area is almost twenty times the size of Germany. Today, you will wake up at Lake Janauaca. The highlight of any river cruise in the Amazon is the excursions into the rainforest. These are possible on small ships such as the MS Jangada. With its shallow draft, it can also navigate shallower side arms and even dock at the shore. Before breakfast, you will go on an excursion, as sunrise is the best time to observe the bird life of the Amazon. With a little luck, parrots of all sizes and colors will fly by, screeching loudly. Perhaps toucans will be perched high up in the trees and primeval hoatzin chickens will be in the thicket. The area is also home to the Amazon river dolphin. After a hearty breakfast, you will explore the local flora and fauna on a jungle hike. In the afternoon, an excursion with motorized canoes awaits you. You can fish for piranhas and take a look at their teeth. After dark, you will set off on another exploration trip. (FMA)

During an early morning shore excursion, you will have the opportunity to see the giant Victoria regia water lily up close. Small capuchin monkeys can often be seen in this area. Continue upstream. You will pass Manaus and have an excellent view of the hustle and bustle of the jungle city from the water. In the afternoon, you will visit the village of Terra Preta. A visit to the indigenous people of this region will give you an insight into everyday village life. In the early evening, you will take a boat trip to observe the wildlife. After breakfast, a morning jungle hike will give you an overview of the sensitive ecosystem with its magnificent diversity. 1,500 bird species, 6,000 tree species, 2.5 million insect species – and no one knows how many more are still waiting to be discovered. Around noon, you will return to the ship. While you enjoy your lunch on board, the ship will continue its journey to the largest freshwater archipelago in the world. This day is all about Anavilhanas National Park. Before breakfast, you will take a boat trip where, with a little luck, you will be able to observe a family of otters. This is followed by a lecture on the problem of rainforest destruction, before you enjoy a caipirinha course in a cheerful atmosphere – no trip to Brazil would be complete without these refreshing lime drinks! In the afternoon, you will reach the northern Rio Negro. The small rivers carry particularly dark water and offer beautiful reflections in the late afternoon. (FMA)

Your last day aboard the MS Jangada begins with a particularly exciting excursion on the Rio Ariaú. In the late morning, you will reach Manaus, where your river cruise ends. Transfer to the airport and flight to Rio, where you will check into your room at a comfortable hotel on Copacabana Beach for the next three nights. (B)

In the morning, visit Corcovado with its famous statue of Christ the Redeemer. A 3.7 km cog railway takes you to the summit. Enjoy breathtaking views from the 710 m high mountain! At the farewell dinner, you can chat with your fellow travelers about the most exciting experiences of your trip. (FA)
