This extraordinary Amazon journey takes place during the high water season aboard the Aria Amazon, a state-of-the-art expedition ship specially designed for voyages of discovery in the Peruvian Amazon and through the biodiverse Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. The elegant ship offers 16 comfortable suites and spacious communal areas, including a panoramic deck, an outdoor Jacuzzi, and a fitness room.
Intense and comfortable Amazon expedition during the high water season
The flood season (from December to May) opens up very special opportunities: the rise in water levels allows you to venture deep into otherwise inaccessible, flooded jungle areas. Your expedition boats glide between the treetops and the rainforest is within reach. Wildlife viewing is particularly intense at this time of year, as many animals – such as monkeys, sloths, and birds – come closer to the water. The landscape is lush and green, the light is atmospheric, and despite occasional heavy rain showers, the climate remains pleasantly warm and tropical.
Note: We also offer this trip as a 5-day option. In this case, you will board the Aria Amazon in Nauta Town on day 4 of the itinerary below. The main route of the shorter trip runs mainly along the Ucayali River.

Your arrival and departure from/to Iquitos are not included in your tour price.
Since our customers all have individual wishes for their trip, we are happy to book flights separately. Of course, the flights then become part of a secure package tour. We recommend an overnight stay in Iquitos to cushion any irregularities with your flight or lost luggage. We are happy to organize everything for you on request. Please contact us.
Book the 5-day trip and board the Aria Amazon in Nauta Town (day 4 of the itinerary). In this case, your trip will also start in Iquitos, where you will receive a warm welcome at the airport. After transferring to the city center, you will take a city tour and enjoy lunch. Later, you will drive to Nauta, where you will board the ship at around 5:30 p.m.
Day 1: Transfer from Iquitos to Nauta & embarkation
Upon arrival on a midday flight, you will be warmly welcomed by your crew at Iquitos International Airport. A private transfer will then take you to the center of Iquitos, where you will enjoy a panoramic city tour and a welcome lunch.
The journey continues to the port of Nauta, where you will board the ship at around 5:30 p.m. Settle into your spacious suite and feel the anticipation growing for the discoveries and encounters that await you in the Peruvian Amazon region over the coming days.
After an introduction by your nature guides and a mandatory safety briefing, all guests gather in the restaurant for the first of many culinary experiences featuring Amazonian cuisine, created by Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, the renowned consulting chef of Aria Amazon.
Day 2: Amazon, Yacapana Islands & Nauta Caño River
The day begins with early morning bird watching along the majestic Amazon River. After breakfast, you will set off on a dinghy excursion on the Yanayacu-Yacapana River and search for fascinating wildlife such as parrots, monkeys, and sloths on this tributary of the Amazon.
In the evening, another excursion awaits you on the dark waters of the Nauta-Caño River, offering an unforgettable experience of wildlife viewing at dusk.
The day ends with an extraordinary view of the starry sky over the Amazon – a moment of silence and wonder.
Day 3: Yanayacu Pucate River, Yanayacu Pucate, village visit & jungle hike
The day begins near the main entrance of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve with a comfortable dinghy ride on the Yanayacu-Pucate River. Try your luck fishing for the infamous piranhas of the Amazon while keeping an eye out for exotic wildlife.
During a visit to an Amazonian village, you will gain insights into the life of the indigenous Ribereños (river dwellers) and experience the harvest of the valuable aguaje palm.
Afterwards, the mysterious black waters of the surrounding area invite you to go canoeing and take a refreshing dip. You may even get to see the pink river dolphins today.
After lunch, enjoy a guided hike through the Casual jungle. Discover the diverse flora and fauna, including medicinal plants, fascinating insects, and colorful poison dart frogs.
Day 4: Nauta Town, visit to a rainforest village & source of the Amazon
The day begins with a guided tour of the colorful market in Nauta. There you will discover the diverse products of the Peruvian rainforest – from fresh fruit to aromatic spices. If you like, you can also try unusual local delicacies.
After breakfast, visit talented artisans from the region who will introduce you to the centuries-old technique of palm fiber weaving —a traditional craft deeply rooted in Amazonian culture.
In the afternoon, you will head to the municipality of San Francisco, where a visit to a local beekeeper will give you an insight into sustainable honey production in the region. Afterwards, you will set off again in the dinghies to experience an impressive natural phenomenon: you will travel to the place where the mighty Amazon River has its source.
After sunset, the crew welcomes the new guests joining the five-day expedition. Together, they continue their journey down the Marañón River.
Day 5: Ucayali River, Yanallpa Creek, and Dorado Lake
If you wish, start the day early and go on a morning wildlife viewing trip along the Ucayali River. Later, continue in the dinghies in search of pink river dolphins while observing the hustle and bustle of local farmers and fishermen on the riverbank.
At dusk, you glide across the dark waters of the El Dorado River and set out in search of the mysterious animals that only become active after nightfall.
After dinner, you set off once more in the dinghies to spot nocturnal animals on Lake Dorado —under a clear sky full of twinkling stars.
Day 6: Ucayali River, Puinahua River, andZapote River
Fortified by a hearty breakfast, you set off on a full-day excursion along the Zapote River. You explore the species-rich water and shore landscape in dinghies. Along the way, a picnic awaits you in the shady green of the rainforest.
On a walk through the floodplain forest, you will learn more about the healing powers of native trees, the behavior of tropical insects, and the colorful frogs of this region.
At the end of the day, glide peacefully along the Ucayali River, accompanied by a spectacular sunset over the Amazon region.
Day 7: Clavero Lake, Ucayali River, andYarapa River
In the morning, you will once again set out on a wildlife search along the Ucayali River. After breakfast, you have a choice: would you like to try your hand at piranha fishing, glide across the mysterious Lake Clavero in a canoe or kayak, take a refreshing dip in the dark water – or would you prefer to visit a local Amazonian village and gain an insight into the life of the Ribereños?
In the afternoon, continue your discovery tour by dinghy along the Yarapa River, where, with a little luck, you may spot more exotic animal species.
Before dinner, you will meet the crew members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that your time aboard the Aria Amazon is unforgettable.
Day 8: Nauta Town, Manatee Rescue Center & Transfer to the airport
In the morning, visit the local market with a guide and discover the impressive variety of regional products from the Peruvian Amazon region. This will give you a last authentic insight into local life.
Back on board the Aria Amazon, enjoy another hearty breakfast before saying goodbye to the crew and disembarking.
On the way to the airport, you will make a moving stopover: at the Manatee Rescue Center, you will learn how orphaned Amazonian manatees are cared for and prepared for their return to the wild.
You will take home not only memories of intense encounters with animals and personal contacts with the people of the region, but also a whole new understanding of the importance of the Amazon rainforest.
