On this Antarctic expedition, explore the Falkland Islands and experience the wildlife paradise of South Georgia before sailing on to the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. You’ll enjoy a journey full of highlights aboard the MS Ocean Victory, MS Ocean Albatros, or the MS Discoverer.
Starting from Ushuaia, Argentina, your first adventure takes you to the fascinating Falkland Islands. In the picturesque capital, Port Stanley, you’ll discover the British-influenced architecture. On Zodiac excursions, you’ll reach secluded beaches where you can observe penguins, Antarctic fur seals, and elephant seals in their natural habitat.
The next stop is South Georgia Island, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. You’ll explore beaches teeming with wildlife, active research stations, and former whaling stations, and visit Shackleton’s final resting place. Afterward, you’ll set course for the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.
On the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands, you’ll go on shore excursions—depending on weather and ice conditions—to active research stations and historic landing sites. The sub-Antarctic islands and the Antarctic Peninsula are a true paradise for nature photographers.
After leaving Antarctica behind, you’ll spend the last few days of the voyage watching birds from the upper deck or attending lectures, workshops, and photo exhibitions as you cross the legendary Drake Passage.

itinerary
Your journey begins where the world ends—in Ushuaia, Argentina—also known as the southernmost city on the planet. It is located at the very southern tip of South America.
After a warm welcome at the airport, you’ll head straight into the spectacular natural landscape of Patagonia. Your premium hotel offers the perfect retreat to settle in, take a deep breath, and let your first impressions sink in. Or you can use the time to explore Ushuaia.
At our optional evening briefing, you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and get to know some of your fellow travelers.
Spend the morning however you like: relax at the hotel, visit one of the museums, or stroll through the shops in Ushuaia. In the early afternoon, we’ll head to the ship together.
The expedition team and crew will welcome you aboard. After checking in and settling into your cabin, you’ll receive all the important information for the coming days during a safety and orientation briefing. At the welcome dinner with the captain, you’ll raise a toast to the journey ahead.
Then it's time to cast off—set course for Antarctica!
On the way to the Falkland Islands , you 'll have plenty of time to explore the ship and take part in the many activities on board.
The lectures given by our scientific and environmental experts on board are particularly fascinating. Drawing on a wealth of expertise and an equal measure of passion, our experienced expedition team will share insights into the history and wildlife of the Falkland Islands and the other destinations along your route.
The Falkland Islands ( Malvinas) await you with their rich wildlife. Weather permitting, you’ll disembark at stunning natural sites. Keep an eye out for rock, king, and Magellanic penguins, which have their breeding colonies here. In addition to numerous bird species, Peale’s dolphins (black-chinned dolphins) and Commerson’s dolphins also inhabit the surrounding waters.
The Falkland Islands are a largely unknown gem, best known for the war between the United Kingdom and Argentina in 1982.
The next morning, you'll arrive at the natural harbor of the capital, Port Stanley. You'll disembark via Zodiac right in the city center and take a leisurely stroll through the streets.
Stanley, the largest island in the archipelago, is sheltered by a natural harbor and is also the bustling center of the Falkland Islands. At the Falkland Islands Museum, fascinating exhibits offer insights into the history of maritime exploration, the natural history of the islands, and the Falklands War of 1982.
Afterward, the excursion is expected to take us to Gypsy Cove on the Cape Pembroke Peninsula, which is designated as a nature reserve. Magellanic penguins, also known as “jackass penguins” because of their donkey-like calls, breed here. The penguins build their nests in underground burrows—a fascinating glimpse into their life on land.
Numerous other bird species also call this place home, including black-crowned night herons, long-tailed meadow starlings, double-banded plovers, as well as highland geese and kelp geese. At nearby Ordinance Point, several World War II-era artillery pieces serve as a reminder of the islands’ strategic importance.
The excitement builds with every day at sea. As you head east, you’ll cross the Antarctic Convergence and officially enter Antarctic waters, with their impressive variety of seabirds—keep an eye out for the world’s largest bird: the wandering albatross.
From majestic giants like the Southern Giant Petrel to the tiny Wilson's Petrel, numerous bird species take advantage of the updrafts above the waves and seem to glide effortlessly on the wind.
And that’s when the view of the ocean is especially worth it: With a little luck, you’ll spot the first spouts from whales breaching the surface—and maybe even the first iceberg on the horizon before long.
You arrive in South Georgia. The island lies south of the Antarctic Convergence and captivates visitors at first sight with its dramatic scenery of glacier-covered mountains and a multitude of animals frolicking in the cold sea.
It is not without reason that South Georgia is called the “Serengeti of the Southern Ocean.” Millions of penguins, seals, and seabirds gather here to breed—a natural spectacle of overwhelming proportions.
Added to this is the island's eventful history, which adds another fascinating dimension to your encounters with its unique wildlife.
A highlight is a visit to the abandoned whaling station at Grytviken, where king penguins and elephant seals now lounge and relax. You can also spot the endemic South Georgia pipits and spade-billed ducks around the station. Sir Ernest Shackleton, one of the great pioneers of Antarctic exploration, is buried in the small cemetery there.
Days 12–13: Lake Scotia
We continue southward. As the icebergs grow larger and more numerous, you can look forward to fascinating lectures and ever-changing opportunities to observe Antarctica’s fascinating wildlife.
The itinerary for the next few days will depend on weather and ice conditions. Landings will be determined by the captain and expedition leader and communicated to you and the other guests on a regular basis. Depending on conditions, shore excursions will take you to active research stations and historic landing sites.
On the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands, a fascinating world of rugged coastlines, picturesque bays, and legendary natural harbors awaits you. Your expedition ship will navigate through ice-filled passages as you keep an eye out for leopard seals, fur seals, and Weddell seals, as well as humpback whales and orcas.
With a heavy heart, you bid farewell to Antarctica and set off once again for the north. You cross the legendary Drake Passage. On board, the expedition comes to a memorable close with a special retrospective in pictures and a farewell dinner together—a time to reflect on the experiences of the past few days and celebrate the conclusion of this extraordinary journey.
Day 20: Disembarkation in Ushuaia
With tired but happy faces, you’ll disembark and take unforgettable memories back to shore. From Ushuaia, you can begin your journey home to Buenos Aires or stay a few more days to further explore the world’s southernmost city and its fascinating surroundings.
The daily programs described here are for your guidance. The itinerary may vary considerably due to local ice and weather conditions, last-minute permit procedures, and local authorities, but also to respond to current conditions regarding wildlife viewing.Theexpedition leader on board will determine the final itinerary and daily program. Flexibility is of utmost importance during our expedition-style voyages.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
The photography workshop is a unique opportunity for photographers to capture the beauty of Antarctica and its wildlife. The program is designed to equip photographers with the skills, knowledge, and support of our designated experts in polar photography.
The program focuses on capturing images of Antarctica's landscape and wildlife. Participants will have the opportunity to photograph icebergs, glaciers, penguins, seals, whales, and other wildlife, guided by a dedicated photography guide who will help them capture the best possible shot of their subject (please note, however, that no specific wildlife sightings can be guaranteed during landings and Zodiac trips). Participants will have the opportunity to travel in smaller groups and be the first group to disembark for Zodiac trips and landings, thereby increasing their chances of capturing the best possible shots.
The photography workshop must be booked and paid for in advance. Space is limited. Available only on select trips.
Price: 995 EUR
Prerequisites: Basic understanding of camera functions (e.g., shutter speed, aperture, etc.) and a camera (whether a compact camera, mirrorless camera, or DSLR)
Required equipment: Camera, lens (wide-angle and telephoto), rechargeable or disposable battery, memory cards, cables and charger, editing equipment and software, waterproof bag
PHOTOGRAPHY COACH ON BOARD
During Zodiac trips, shore excursions, and while on deck, photography coaches are always on hand to offer tips and advice. They also hold regular presentations to teach helpful techniques so you can master the unique challenges of photographing in the polar regions, which are both unique and unpredictable.
Your photography coach will also capture the highlights of your expedition in photos. As a lasting memento, you’ll receive the photos on a USB drive, which you can share with family and friends when you get home.
Available to all guests on every trip—free of charge
Citizen Science Program
As a traveler, you can actively contribute to various projects by collecting data and helping to deepen our understanding of the ecosystems in the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as the impacts of climate change.
This support is particularly valuable in the polar regions: It makes it possible to facilitate long-term scientific observations that academic research teams would be unable to conduct on-site on a sustained basis on their own.
The projects offered may vary slightly depending on the voyage and current scientific needs. All guests are warmly invited to participate. For more information, please see the daily onboard program. Also, be sure to attend the scheduled introduction to citizen science at the start of your voyage.
Participation is free of charge.
Glide through the waters and admire the majestic beauty of the icebergs; watch the various birds and seals—and perhaps even the whales—in their natural habitat, under the guidance of experienced kayak guides who will ensure your safety on every excursion.
Train your body, mind, and heart during this unforgettable excursion, safely guided by kayaking experts.
Although kayaking is possible in most locations during every Antarctic expedition, weather, sea, and ice conditions will determine when and where you can ensure your safety and enhance your experience.
To register for this activity, you must have kayaking experience and participate in a mandatory safety briefing conducted by the kayaking instructor.
This program is designed for anyone who wants to get a first taste of kayaking in the polar regions. Each participant takes part in one kayaking excursion per trip. The group consists of 14 people and is accompanied by its own team of guides as well as a support Zodiac. The number of available kayaking spots varies depending on the trip duration, route, and weather conditions. The goal is to take groups out on the water whenever conditions permit.
Advance booking is recommended. A 20% deposit is required to secure your reservation. Since the number of available kayak spots varies depending on the ship, itinerary, and duration of the trip, the number of spots available for advance booking is intentionally limited. Additional spots may be offered on board, if available. Spots are allocated based on availability and in the order in which requests are received.
Additional kayaking excursions can be booked on board for an extra charge, provided there are available spots.
Important Information
Participants must be at least 12 years old, in reasonably good health, and have at least some paddling experience. The maximum weight limit is 118 kg per person.
Before the first kayaking trip, the guides provide a detailed explanation of the equipment and how to use it, as well as the basic rules for paddling a sea kayak.
The trips usually last between one and three hours.
Price: 350 EUR per trip
Prices are per trip. Availability varies depending on the trip.
Immersive Kayaking Program (starting in 2026/2027)
This new program is designed for guests who want to go kayaking on as many excursions and shore excursions as possible during their trip. Participation in the Immersive Kayaking Experience is limited to 10 people and is led by a dedicated kayak guide, accompanied by a support Zodiac. Weather and expedition conditions permitting, guests will have the opportunity to go kayaking on most excursions and shore excursions.
We strongly recommend making your reservation well in advance.
Price: 1,195 EUR
SNOWSHOE HIKING
Hike through soft powder snow, climb gentle slopes, and experience the fascinating wildlife and the silence of the polar regions.
Snowshoeing is a particularly immersive way to explore the Antarctic landscape when the snow is especially deep. Equipped with lightweight snowshoes and poles, one of our expedition guides will lead you through the snow-covered expanses of the polar region. This activity offers you unique vantage points for stunning photo opportunities, allows you to discover the seventh continent up close, and lets you observe wildlife in its natural habitat. And best of all: no prior experience is necessary!
Before the first tour, all interested guests are invited to a snowshoe workshop on board. Our snowshoe expert will introduce the equipment, explain the proper technique, and go over the most important safety rules so that you can embark on your snow adventure well-prepared.
On land, you’ll follow your guides through gently rolling terrain. Along the way, there will be plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take photos of the impressive views. The tours typically last two to three hours and take place independently of the regular Zodiac trips and shore excursions. This allows you to explore the surroundings in a particularly immersive way. Snowshoeing will not take place at every landing, but only when the weather, terrain, and snow conditions are suitable.
