Day 1: Departure for Africa

Day 2: Arrival in Windhoek

After being greeted by your tour guide at the airport, you’ll head to the city center and your boutique hotel. Namibia’s capital is shaped by its German colonial past and everyday African life. Here you’ll find Christ Church and the Tintenpalast; there, the women’s cooperative in Katatura. You’ll see all of this on a city tour before enjoying a welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant. (A)

Day 3: On Safari – Otjiwa Safari Lodge

From Windhoek, you’ll travel north through a landscape of fields and cattle ranches. On a game drive in open-top vehicles, you can spot rhinos, antelopes, giraffes, and countless bird species. You’ll spend the night at a stylish safari lodge near Otjiwarongo. (FA)

Day 4: Namibia's Jewel: Etosha

You’ll have to get up early today. But the destination is well worth the effort: the magnificent Etosha National Park is as large as Belgium and serves as a vast stage for Africa’s wildlife. You’ll see this for yourself on your first game drive by bus this afternoon. You’ll spend the next two nights at an elegant lodge in Etosha National Park. (FA)

Day 5: Etosha National Park

You’ll start the day with another safari, this time in open-air vehicles. Springboks, oryx, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and elephants gather at the watering holes. With a little luck, you might even spot lions, leopards, and rhinos through your camera lens. (FMA)

Day 6: Along the Lush Kavango

Today, a long but exciting drive with plenty of photo stops lies ahead of you. The landscape changes dramatically as you travel from the dry savanna into Namibia’s green northeast. Traditional round huts, oxcarts, and herds of cattle characterize the scenery. Here, the Kavango people live along the Kavango River, making their living from fishing and cattle ranching. Tonight you’ll spend the night at a lodge idyllically situated on the riverbank. (FA)

Day 7 In the Zambezi Region

After breakfast and a morning boat safari, you’ll continue your journey into the lush green surroundings of the Kwando River, home to lions, leopards, buffalo, and elephants. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy some free time at your lodge before heading out on another safari. (B)

Day 8: Bwabwata National Park

On another game drive in open-air vehicles through Bwabwata National Park, you’ll experience the bush savanna with its fascinating wildlife. The Zambezi region is a true birdwatcher’s paradise. Before dinner, you’ll set out on one final boat safari to bid farewell. (FMA)

Day 9: From Namibia to Botswana

Today you’ll set out early on your journey to the far northeast of Namibia and across the border to Kasane. The banks of the Chobe River are famous for their herds of elephants, which are rarely found in such numbers anywhere else in Africa. Lions, leopards, zebras, and giraffes also live here. A rich variety of birdlife adds splashes of color to the landscape. Aboard a motorboat, you’ll explore the Chobe River and observe the animals both on land and in the water. You’ll spend the next two nights right on the Chobe River at a picturesque safari lodge. (FMA)

Day 10: In Chobe National Park

In the morning, you’ll experience the rich wildlife on a safari in open-air vehicles, where you’re sure to encounter numerous elephants. Later, you’ll head out onto the river by boat until the sun sets over the Chobe. Now you’re in the realm of crocodiles and hippos. Other wild animals line the banks to quench their thirst during the cooler hours. (FMA)

Day 11: Victoria Falls and Departure on Rovos Rail

An early game drive in Chobe National Park will ideally treat you to more exciting safari experiences and perfect light. Around noon, you’ll cross the border into Zimbabwe. Mosi-oa-Tunya, “the smoke that thunders,” is the name the locals give to Victoria Falls. The waters of the Zambezi River plunge over 100 m into a narrow gorge. No wonder this natural spectacle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, your journey begins aboard the legendary Rovos Rail train. You’ll spend the next four nights in your onboard compartment. (FA)

Day 12: Hwange National Park

At sunrise, we set out on a game drive in Hwange National Park. Zimbabwe’s largest protected area, located in the foothills of the Kalahari, is famous for its herds of elephants, but lions, giraffes, leopards, zebras, antelopes, and warthogs also thrive here. The train journey continues south to Bulawayo. (FMA)

Day 13: Matobo National Park

Today’s destination is Matobo National Park, where you’ll see some of the millennia-old rock paintings created by the region’s indigenous people, as well as the grave of colonial politician and businessman Cecil Rhodes. The railway line you’re traveling on was originally built according to Rhodes’ plans. (FMA)

Day 14: Northern South Africa

Your train rolls across the Limpopo River toward South Africa. From Musina, the journey continues southward. Watch the ever-changing landscape pass by as you listen to an entertaining onboard lecture and enjoy excellent meals in the onboard restaurant. (FMA)

Day 15 In Pretoria

Your train arrives at the station in Pretoria, and you say goodbye to your friendly crew. After a stop at the railway museum and a city tour of Pretoria, you’ll head to the Johannesburg airport and fly back home overnight. (FM)
