Falkland Islands & South Georgia

from Punta Arenas / to Ushuaia

18 days (17 nights)

MS Magellan Explorer | MS Magellan Discoverer
18 days (17 nights) cruise from/to Punta Arenas with Falkland Islands and South Georgia.
On this 17-day expedition from Punta Arenas, Chile, you will discover the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and South Georgia.
On the Falkland Islands, observe rockhopper penguins and gentoo penguins in their natural habitat. From your Zodiac, you can see black-browed albatrosses and petrels high above. Hike to the local settlements and get to know the people who have lived on this island for generations.
You will visit the capital of the Falkland Islands, Port Stanley. With its British flair, it seems a little out of place in this day and age. Stroll through this small town, shop for souvenirs, or visit the Falkland Museum.
From there, the journey continues to South Georgia, with its mountains permanently covered by a thick layer of ice and snow. As you sail towards South Georgia, you can observe albatrosses, petrels, and various species of whales from the glass-enclosed Panorama Lounge or from the terrace on the outer deck.
Your time in South Georgia begins with a Zodiac ride to Elsehul Bay. In Grytviken, you will visit the historic site with a museum and Ernest Shackleton's grave. Here you will learn more about Shackleton and his expedition.
Animals reign supreme on South Georgia Island. You will visit one of the world's largest king penguin colonies and observe elephant seals relaxing on the shores.
You will also land at Gold Harbor. A spectacular landscape with elephant seals, king penguins, dark albatrosses, and hanging glaciers. In addition, visits to Cooper Bay, Andrews Bay, Ocean Harbor, Prion Island, and Salisbury Plain are also on the agenda.
