MS Le Commandant Charcot
The brand-new Le Commandant-Charcot was built in 2020 specifically for cruises to the polar regions and is definitely revolutionizing the cruise segment with its highly innovative and outstanding design. The ship is the world's first polar expedition ship with a hybrid propulsion system that combines liquefied natural gas (LNG) and electric batteries, and thus features the latest and most advanced technologies to contribute to environmental protection. Reduced CO2 particle emissions thanks to LNG, digital navigation assistance to reduce fuel consumption, energy optimization systems, waste recycling systems, and a modern wastewater treatment system were enough reasons for Bureau Veritas to certify Le Commandant-Charcot as "Cleanship."
Ultimate adventures and extraordinary expeditions await you
With Le Commandant-Charcot, the first luxury expedition ship in ice class PC2, you now have the opportunity to explore the most remote regions of the Arctic and Antarctic for the first time. The captain and expedition leaders will do everything in their power to make your trip as comprehensive and unforgettable as possible, while complying with safety regulations and IAATO (International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators) guidelines.
A team of 16 polar experts is on board to accompany every excursion or landing. Depending on the destination, marine biologists, ornithologists, glaciologists, geologists, and historians with a passion for the history of the great polar expeditions are on board. In addition to the Zodiac excursions and landings that make up the expedition cruises, aboardLe Commandant-Charcot youcan enjoy unique and exclusive activities such as dog sledding or hot air ballooning. These activities allow you to discover the vast expanses of the polar regions from a whole new perspective.
State-of-the-art technology paired with French luxury ambience
When you book a trip on Le Commandant-Charcot, you will board an extraordinary mega yacht and enjoy a polar cruise in a class of its own. Here, the latest technology, fine materials, sophisticated details, and modern lines come together. Two internationally renowned architectural firms were commissioned to design the ship, paying particular attention to ensuring that the overall atmosphere of the ship harmonizes with its surroundings. The approach is contemporary and creates a welcoming and elegant ambience. Enjoy first-class service on board, whether in one of the two excellent restaurants, in the relaxing and luxurious spa area, or in one of the 31 suites on board. The French art of living definitely comes along for the ride on this ship.
Experience the special moment when Le Commandant-Charcot left the shipyard in Søvik, Norway, to set sail for Saint-Nazaire. At the French shipyard, the newest member of the fleet was fitted with its propulsion systems, known as Azipod ABB drives (azimuthing electric podded drive).
