MS Villa
Svalbard is the Norwegian archipelago between the Norwegian mainland and the North Pole. It was discovered in 1596 by Willem Barents and is located about 965 kilometers from the North Pole and 644 kilometers north of Norway. With a land area of 39,784 km² and 60% ice cover, Svalbard is considered the largest wilderness area in Europe. Spread across four settlements (Longyearbyen is the largest), Svalbard has a total population of around 2,700.
Expedition mode begins as soon as you leave Longyearbyen —your expedition leader and captain will determine the route based on wildlife, weather, and ice conditions.
The MS Villa is an excellent platform for photographing the breathtaking landscape as you sail toward the pack ice in search of seabirds, seals, whales, and, of course, the king of the Arctic, the polar bear.
Join your expedition leaders on Zodiac rides and shore excursions to explore nature, observe wildlife, and visit historical sites. With a maximum group size of 12 guests, you can quickly and easily take advantage of all the wildlife viewing opportunities on land or in the Zodiacs. This way, you can easily maximize your Spitsbergen experience!

itinerary
Day 1: Longyearbyen
Meet your dedicated expedition team and crew at 4:00 PM at the dock in Longyearbyen, where you will board the MS Villa and settle in. After settling into your cabin, the mandatory safety briefing will be conducted before sailing from Adventfjorden to Isfjorden. Enjoy the open decks before a welcome dinner is served in the dining room. Your adventure has just begun!
Days 2–10: Explore the Svalbard Archipelago
You will be in full expedition mode, exploring the Svalbard Archipelago. Weather and ice conditions will determine the route, and your expedition leader will keep you updated on the plan during your days on board. On the last day, we will return to Longyearbyen to celebrate our adventures together and dock for the night.
Below is an example of what an expedition might look like.
Danskøya & Amsterdamøya Islands: The island of Danskøya was the starting point for Salomon Andrée and two companions' failed attempt to reach the North Pole in a hydrogen balloon in 1897. The island of Amsterdamøya was a Danish and Dutch whaling station in the early 16th century and is now home to nesting Arctic terns.
Liefdefjorden: You will venture deep into the Fjord of Love and perhaps reach the mighty Monaco Glacier. The side fjords and small archipelagos offer a perfect stop for a hike or a Zodiac cruise that will impress even the most seasoned adventurer.
Kongs Fjord & Ny-Ålesund: You can visit an international research station on the shores of this picturesque passage or view the small settlement from the deck of our ship. The mighty Kongs Glacier is a place where polar bears hunt for seals. The nearby lush hills of Ossian Sars invite you to take a breathtaking hike.
Hinlopen Strait: If you sail around the northeastern tip of Spitsbergen and ice conditions permit, you will pass through Hinlopen Strait, which separates Spitsbergen from Nordaustlandet. This picturesque strait, dotted with icebergs, is an ideal place for a Zodiac ride. Here we can often observe ringed seals, bearded seals, polar bears, and seabirds. When we go ashore, you will find yourself in a place of unspoiled beauty, just as nature once revealed itself to the heroes of polar exploration.
Hornsund: Hornsund is the southernmost fjord on the island of Spitsbergen. The coastline consists of several bays with glacial valleys leading to high mountain peaks. Since 1957, there has been a Polish research station here that focuses on meteorology, seismology, and glaciology. Arctic foxes, numerous seabirds, and reindeer are frequently seen here.
Bellsund: Between Isfjord and Hornsund lies the mighty Bellsund, the entrance to Van Mijenfjord, Van Keulenfjord, and Recherchefjord. Here you will find old hunting cabins and remnants from the early days of whaling, which took place here and still captures the imagination. Akselöya separates the fjord entrances of Van Mijenfjord and Van Keulenfjord.
Day 11: Longyearbyen
Enjoy one last breakfast together as you reach Longyearbyen, the final destination where you will say goodbye and disembark.
The daily programs described here are for your guidance. The itinerary may vary considerably due to local ice and weather conditions, last-minute permit procedures, and local authorities, but also to respond to current conditions regarding wildlife viewing.Theexpedition leader on board will determine the final itinerary and daily program.
