Your arrival in and departure from Longyearbyen (Svalbard) are not included in your tour price.
Since our customers all have individual wishes for their trip, we are happy to book flights separately. Of course, the flights then become part of a secure package tour. We recommend an overnight stay in Longyearbyen to cushion any irregularities with your flight or lost luggage. We are happy to organize everything for you on request. Please contact us.
Day 1: Embarkation in Longyearbyen & Alkehornet
In Longyearbyen, the northernmost town in the world, board the Aqua Lares and settle into your luxurious cabin.
In the afternoon, you will visit Alkehornet, an impressive bird cliff where thousands of guillemots and herring gulls nest. The tundra below often attracts reindeer to graze, and with a little luck, you may also spot the cunning Arctic fox hunting.
Day 2: Gravneset & Smeerenburg
The day begins at Gravneset, a headland surrounded by glaciers and mountains. Here, a historic whale cemetery tells of the adventures of early Arctic explorers.
In the afternoon, you will continue your journey to Smeerenburgfjord and Sorgattet, once the center of Dutch whaling activities in the 17th century. You will go ashore at this historic site. While coastal terns circle around you, you will be surrounded by the impressive beauty of the Arctic coast.
Day 3: Through the pack ice
After a night crossing from Smeerenburg, the Aqua Lares reaches the drifting pack ice. In this silent expanse stretching to the horizon, you will go on a tender excursion in search of polar bears, bearded seals, and ivory gulls in their natural habitat.
In the afternoon, you can take the Polar Plunge and jump into the ice-cold Arctic waters.
Day 4: Alkefjellet & Bråsvellbreen
Today, you will start the day by exploring one of Spitsbergen's most famous bird cliffs. Its basalt walls rise steeply from the sea and provide a home for over 60,000 pairs of thick-billed murres during the summer breeding season. The cliffs serve as nesting sites for the birds, while polar foxes and glaucous gulls can often be seen below, preying on eggs or chicks.
Later in the day, you will sail along the Bråsvellbreen glacier front, an outlet of the Austfonna ice sheet. With a length of almost 180 kilometers, it is one of the longest glacier fronts in the northern hemisphere. In summer, meltwater streams cascade down the mighty glacier front as impressive waterfalls.
Day 5: Hinlopen Strait & Torellneset
In the morning, you will cross the Hinlopen Strait, which separates Spitsbergen from Nordaustlandet. The passage is lined with steep cliffs and several tidal glaciers, an important summer habitat for thick-billed guillemots, which nest in the cliffs. Bearded seals can also be observed in the waters amid the drifting pack ice. Polar bears are often sighted, especially along the ice edge.
In the afternoon, you will go ashore at Torellneset , where Atlantic walruses often come to rest on the beach between feeding trips in the surrounding shallow waters.
Day 6: Sorgfjorden
Today you will reach Sorgfjorden at the northwestern tip of Spitsbergen. The fjord is famous for its dramatic historical events – in particular the naval battle of 1693, when French warships encountered Dutch whalers. Traces of the whaling era, such as graves and oil ovens from the 17th century, are still visible along the shores.
Occasionally, Svalbard reindeer and Arctic foxes can be spotted along the coast, while walruses gather at their resting places at the entrance to the fjord. In summer , coastal terns, geese, and other migratory birds also enrich seasonal life on the coast of the High Arctic.
Day 7: Krossfjorden & Kongsfjorden
In the morning, you will explore Krossfjorden, where the mighty Lilliehöökbreen glacier stretches for more than 12 kilometers. Seals can often be seen on the drifting ice, while herring gulls glide over the fjord.
Later in the day, you will continue your journey to Kongsfjorden, one of Spitsbergen's most beautiful fjords. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and extensive glaciers, the fjord has always attracted explorers and scientists. The dramatic landscapes offer some of the most impressive panoramas in the entire archipelago.
Day 8: Back in Longyearbyen
After a final hearty breakfast aboard the Aqua Lares, it's time to say goodbye to your fellow travelers and the crew.

Summer months are the best time to travel to the Arctic
When the Aqua Lares cruises around Spitsbergen and the Arctic Circle in June, summer in the Arctic brings a remarkable transformation: the snow on the pack ice and tundra melts, the almost continuous daylight illuminates the landscape, and wildlife returns to the mainland. Temperatures at this time of year are around 10°C – warm enough for comfortable travel, yet cool enough to preserve the region's impressive barren beauty. Rain and fog are much less frequent than during the rest of the year.
The Arctic summer opens up a realm of discovery. Guided hikes lead to historic whaling stations and spectacular viewpoints, while tender trips navigate between steep fjord cliffs, drifting ice floes, and hidden bays. On shore excursions, colorful wildflowers bloom on either side of the tundra trails. During the warmer months, calm waters allow access to the most remote corners of the archipelago and offer exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities —from walruses and bearded seals to polar bears. Thanks to the long hours of daylight, you can enjoy all your discoveries at your leisure.
Animal activity reaches its peak during the Arctic summer. As the ice melts, polar bears occasionally approach the coast. Beluga whales also appear from time to time in sheltered bays.
Destinations for your superyacht expedition around Spitsbergen
Longyearbyen
Located on the main island of the Svalbard archipelago, Longyearbyen is the northernmost settlement in the world —a remote Arctic town framed by glaciers and endless mountain ranges. Once a center of coal mining, today it warmly welcomes travelers with incredibly clear air, often almost surreal silence, and temperatures that can drop below –40°C in winter.
Gravneset and Smeerenburg
Gravneset ("Grabkap"), located in one of Spitsbergen's most picturesque fjords, is framed by high glaciers and rugged mountain peaks. This peaceful landing site is home to one of the archipelago's largest historical cemeteries, with over 130 graves dating back to the early whaling days of the 17th century. Just behind it lies Smeerenburg, a former Dutch whaling station that was once bustling with activity during the heyday of Arctic exploration. Today, its shores are frequently visited by walruses. A fantastic place where Arctic wildlife meets maritime history.
Samarinvågen
The calving glacier in Samarinvågen often fills the bay with drifting ice, creating ideal resting places for bearded seals. Seabirds are abundant here, including red-throated divers, thick-billed guillemots, and eider ducks —both common and king eiders. With a little luck, you may even spot a beluga whale surfacing in the calm waters.

The polar bear, probably the best-known predator in the Arctic, is most commonly seen in regions with drifting pack ice, where it roams the ice floes in search of seals. These solitary, powerful animals characterize the image of the High Arctic and are an impressive symbol of the untouched polar landscape.

Walruses rest in large, lively groups along the rocky coastline of Smeerenburg. With their long ivory tusks and distinctive mustaches, these powerful marine mammals appear both sociable and charismatic. Between periods of rest, they dive for mussels in the icy shallow waters or engage in moderate fights to establish dominance.
beluga whales
Beluga whales are occasionally seen in the calm fjords of the Arctic, where they swim in small groups just below the surface of the water. Their light coloration and distinctive round heads make them instantly recognizable, and their diverse vocal repertoire has earned them the nickname "canaries of the sea. " Often sociable and sometimes curious, they are among the more elusive marine mammals in the region.

The Svalbard reindeer, the smallest subspecies of reindeer and the only one found on Svalbard, roams the archipelago's tundra in small scattered groups, grazing on moss, lichen, and hardy plants. With its short legs, thick fur, and compact build, it is perfectly adapted to the harsh conditions of the High Arctic.
Superyacht with ice class 1B
The Aqua Lares has ice class 1B certification. This certification, which is based on Finnish-Swedish regulations, means that the yacht has been reinforced so that it can safely navigate in waters with light to moderate ice. The hull, propulsion, and technical systems are designed so that the ship can handle first-year sea ice with a thickness of around 0.6–0.8 meters. In more severe ice conditions, assistance from an icebreaker may be necessary.
For travelers, this means that the Aqua Lares is ideally suited for polar regions and is particularly suitable for summer and early fall expeditions in areas such as Spitsbergen. Although it is not an icebreaker and is not designed for very thick multi-year Arctic ice, it offers ideal conditions for safe and comfortable expedition routes in the typical light to moderate ice conditions of these travel seasons.
