The SY Rembrandt van Rijn was originally built in 1947 as a herring lugger.

In 1994, the ship underwent extensive conversion work in the Netherlands to turn it into a three-masted passenger sailing schooner. In the years that followed, the ship conquered new waters: Spitsbergen (1994–1996) and later the Galápagos Islands (1998–2001) were among its areas of operation.

After this active phase, a comprehensive modernization began. By 2011, the Rembrandt Van Rijn had been completely rebuilt and brought up to date.

Particular attention was paid to upgrading the communication and navigation equipment, which now complies with the latest SOLAS regulations.

With its specialized equipment, the ship is ideal for expedition cruises to remote areas and between small islands.

Thanks to its open deck areas, it offers excellent opportunities for observing wildlife and the landscape, even while sailing.

However, the two Zodiac boats provide a real adventure: they enable shore excursions and wildlife viewing in regions that would otherwise be inaccessible.
