Sailing tour through the world's longest fjord system

from/to Reykjavik/Iceland

11 days (10 nights)

SY Rembrandt van Rijn
11 days (10 nights) Fly & Sail East Greenland: Expedition through Scoresby Sound on the historic three-masted schooner SY Rembrandt van Rijn (max. 33 passengers), including charter flight from/to Reykjavik to Constable Point (East Greenland)
It is a sailing ship, but mainly the engine is used. When weather conditions permit, it is also sailed.
A breathtaking journey through the majestic Scoresby Sund on Greenland's east coast – the world's largest fjord system and a true natural wonder.
Over 350 kilometers long, the sound impresses with enormous icebergs, rugged rock formations, and a rich wildlife —from icebergs to musk oxen and arctic foxes to seals and whales.
This journey takes you right into the heart of this Arctic landscape, where you can observe the Northern Lights, explore icebergs in Zodiacs, and learn about Inuit culture in Ittoqqortoormiit.
You will travel through the Arctic in much the same way as the first explorers did: the historic three-masted schooner Rembrandt van Rijn will be our base during this extraordinary journey. It was built around 95 years ago for fishing in the Netherlands and has been lovingly restored and modernized with great attention to detail.
The cabins are functionally furnished, ideal for travelers who appreciate an authentic environment.
The atmosphere on board is personal and relaxed, characterized by the small group of 33 guests and the dedicated crew.
While dining together in the warm ship's mess, guests share their experiences as the Arctic landscape passes by outside.
The crew and experienced nature guides are always on hand to prepare you for Zodiac excursions to the impressive icebergs or for observing Arctic wildlife.
The Rembrandt van Rijn offers you an intimate, family-like travel experience where you feel well cared for and free at the same time – an ideal basis for unforgettable experiences in the Arctic.

itinerary
Day 1 | Flight from Reykjavik to Constable Pynt & Embarkation
Today, your journey to East Greenland begins with a charter flight from Reykjavik to Constable Pynt, an airfield at the end of Hurry Inlet, known for its rich geological history.
Here you will meet your expedition team and board Zodiacs that will take you to your ship.
Upon arrival, you will board the Rembrandt van Rijn to set sail for the glaciers and fjords of this region over the next few days.
Day 2 | Sailing along the glaciers
On the coast of Volquart Boons, you enter the world of glaciers. Here, a Zodiac tour along the glacier fronts at Månegletcher or Vikingebugt awaits you, where you can feel the power of the glaciers up close.
Day 3 | Charcot Havn natural harbor
You will sail along the east coast of Milne Land and past numerous giant icebergs. During a shore excursion in Charcot Havn, you will explore the Charcot Glacier before continuing on to Øfjord.
Days 4-7 | Fjords and massive icebergs
Øfjord is one of the most impressive fjords in the world, surrounded by mountains up to 2,000 meters high. Shore excursions to places such as Jyttehavn, Harefjord, and Storö reveal the rich natural beauty of this region. The remains of Thule houses are reminders of early settlement by whalers.
Day 8 | Tundra of Jameson Land
Musk oxen graze in the vast tundra of Jameson Land. Here you can explore Tyskit Nunat and other historic sites that commemorate Alfred Wegener's expeditions.
Day 9 | Visit to Scoresbysund
Today you will visit Ittoqqortoormiit, the largest settlement in the region. Around 500 people live here. Buy souvenirs or learn about the traditions of the local people.
Day 10 | Hikes in Hurry Inlet
Migratory birds gather on the southern shore of Jameson Land for their journey. On a hike through the fjord area, you will discover the diverse flora and fauna of this region.
Day 11 | Return flight to Keflavik from Constable Pynt
At the end of the trip, you will return to Keflavik by charter plane – with unforgettable memories in your luggage.
We recommend that you plan at least one additional night in Reykjavik, as flight times from Constable Point cannot be guaranteed due to weather conditions.
The daily programs described here are for your guidance. The itinerary may vary considerably due to local ice and weather conditions, last-minute permit procedures, and local authorities, but also to respond to current conditions regarding wildlife viewing.Theexpedition leader on board will determine the final itinerary and daily program. Flexibility is of utmost importance during our expedition-style voyages.
