Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falkland Islands

Day 1: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Welcome to Buenos Aires, where you will be staying in a hotel. You may want to spend some time exploring the city, nicknamed the "Paris of South America." With its Belle Époque buildings, street cafés, and green spaces, the city exudes the fiery passion of Latin America—the collective love of soccer, grilled meat (asado), and tango.

Days 2–4: At Sea
Feel at home aboard Scenic Eclipse, where luxury is almost limitless. As you sail south, there are numerous opportunities to observe wildlife. Your Discovery Team will be on deck looking for albatrosses, petrels, and shearwaters following the ship. They will give lectures on the history and geology of the Falkland Islands and the Southern Ocean.

On the 20-day trip from Buenos Aires, you will fly to Ushuaia on the second day and board the ship there. On the third day, you will be at sea, and on the fourth day, you will reach the Falkland Islands.

Day 5: Falkland Islands
Remote and sparsely populated, the Falkland Islands are a paradise for animal lovers. You will visit several of the outer islands, home to large colonies of penguins and albatrosses. Fur seals and elephant seals roam the sandy beaches, while whales and dolphins are at home in the surrounding waters.

During your stay in the Falkland Islands, you will probably also visit Stanley, the capital of the archipelago on East Falkland. Since colonization in the 18th century, ownership of the Falkland Islands has been disputed between the French, British, Spanish, and Argentinians. In 1982, the Falklands War led to the separation of this remote outpost, and the islands remain part of the British Commonwealth.

This town offers a unique British outpost feel as you meander through its central streets. Visit a range of local shops and see incredible sights such as Christ Church Cathedral with its whale bone arch, or perhaps even stop off at an English pub for a beer with the friendly locals.

Day 6: Falkland Islands
During your stay in the Falkland Islands, you will see why they are considered one of the wonders of the southern hemisphere. Admire the windswept green hills and clear waters lapping at white sandy beaches that could be mistaken for a much more tropical location. Stroll along beautiful beaches, hike through the tussock grass, or sit on a cliff and take in the view. The photographer in you will be delighted when you get your camera out.

The Falkland Islands are full of natural beauty and home to a host of penguins and birds. In addition to other penguin species such as king, Magellanic, and rockhopper penguins, the world's largest population of gentoo penguins can be found here. Sit on the beach and watch the penguins waddle and interact with each other.

You may also spot the black-browed albatross, the wren, and the flightless Falkland steamer duck, both endemic bird species. Your expert discovery team, made up of biologists, historians, geologists, and other leading specialists, will educate you about the local flora and fauna so you can make the most of your time in the Falklands.

On the 20-day trip from Buenos Aires, you will sail towards South Georgia on days 6 and 7.

Days 7–8: At sea
Spend the day at leisure and explore the various amenities of your luxurious Discovery Yacht. Indulge your palate with one of the culinary experiences or relax at the Senses Spa.

As you sail towards South Georgia, you will have time to adjust to the rhythm of the sea. Enjoy the time to relax and be enchanted by the many seabirds you encounter along the way. Perhaps you will join the enthusiastic whale watchers and hope to catch a glimpse of one of these giant mammals, or simply gaze out at the vastness of the ocean from your private veranda while your butler pours you your favorite drink.

Day 9: South Georgia
South Georgiais undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the world. During your stay here, the team of experts aboard the Scenic Eclipse will put together a unique itinerary based on weather and ice conditions to show you South Georgia's immense wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.

A 3,000-meter-high mountain range forms the backbone of this long, narrow island. Between the mountains, fragmented glaciers make their way through tussock grass to the deeply indented coastline. Although it is such a small outpost in the vastness of the South Atlantic, the sea around South Georgia is one of the most vibrant areas on Earth. Although permanently uninhabited, it is home to a rich wildlife, including king penguins, albatrosses, elephant seals, and fur seals.

Nicknamed the "Serengeti of the Southern Ocean" and the "Galápagos of the Poles," South Georgia is a top destination for wildlife photographers from around the world. Known for being home to some of the world's largest concentrations of king penguins, South Georgia will leave you in awe. Take a look at the black sand beach and watch a sea of black, white, yellow, and orange penguins standing around, squabbling, and curiously exploring their surroundings. Listen to them singing loudly to each other.

In addition to king penguins, you'll also find gentoo penguins, macaroni penguins, and other magnificent birds such as the majestic wandering albatrosses, which you can see gliding over the choppy waves in gusts of wind. One day you might see colonies of hundreds of thousands of king penguin pairs waddling along a beach, and the next day you might visit another beach with thousands of fur seals or elephant seals. You'll be amazed at how much wildlife you'll see.

On the 20-day trip from Buenos Aires, you will explore South Georgia on days 8 to 10.

Day 10: South Georgia
Weather and ice conditions permitting, you can also explore the settlement of Grytviken during your stay in South Georgia.

Grytviken is surrounded by steep, rugged mountains and was once a paradise for whaling, but overhunting quickly depleted the whale population in this region. The remains of the old whaling stations can still be seen, with some ships rusting in the bay and others abandoned. Now that hunting is a thing of the past, the islands have made a remarkable ecological recovery and wildlife populations have rebounded.

Grytviken is also the final resting place of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Standing in the cemetery, you will feel an emotional connection to this legendary figure, as if history has come alive. Visit his grave, learn more about his famous expedition, and raise a toast to honor the great explorer.

Fortuna Bay is another possible landing site on South Georgia, depending on weather and ice conditions. The bay not only offers a rich wildlife, but also a wonderful panorama from its beach with the rugged peaks and the remarkable expanse of the King Glacier. It is home to a large population of king penguins, Antarctic fur seals, elephant seals, skuas, giant petrels, and Antarctic terns. The varied tundra and curious penguins and seal pups will likely provide some of the best pictures of your trip.

Visit the world's second-largest king penguin colony, with more than 250,000 birds, on Salisbury Plain. The impressive sights and sounds you will experience surpass any photo or video. Marvel at the amphitheater of snow-capped mountains overlooking the colony as the penguins nest, breed, and moult on the shores. Along the 3 km long pebble beach, you will also find numerous elephant seals and fur seals moving among the wildlife. The basin is framed by tussock-covered hills and cliffs on one side and the Bay of Isles on the other, but it is the Grace Glacier and Lucas Glacier at either end that give Salisbury Plain its visual appeal.

Another must-see is the abandoned whaling village of Stromness, which saved Sir Ernest Shackleton and his companions. After a grueling 36-hour trek through the South Georgia mountains, Shackleton was helped by the Norwegian whaling station manager at this remote outpost of civilization. Listen to your expert Discovery Team leader recount stories from the past as you admire the structures from afar. Discovery: Equipped with a fleet of custom-built Zodiacs and kayaks, your voyages of discovery will take you to places you could only dream of before.

Day 11: South Georgia
On your expedition to South Georgia, you may also visit some of the places listed below.

The small bay of Gold Harbor is considered one of the most beautiful areas in the region. Framed by the glacier-covered peaks of the Salvesen Range, Gold Harbor brings together the wildlife and landscape of South Georgia in one place. King penguins, gentoo penguins, and elephant seals are the main attractions in this natural amphitheater.

Cooper Bay is a hidden gem at the southeastern tip of South Georgia, offering a variety of coves and crevices along its rocky coastline. Explore it by Zodiac and look out for giant petrels and brown skuas hovering overhead, or keep an eye out for playful fur seals in the kelp forests. On land, admire the many seals as you climb a short but steep hill to find a macaroni penguin colony hidden among tussock grasses.

Drygalski Fjord is one of the most scenic areas of South Georgia. The narrow channel is reminiscent of the mighty glacier that shaped this land. Steep, snow-covered walls line the fjord on both sides, while icebergs and bergy bits float gently past the Scenic Eclipse, which you can watch from the viewing deck. The Risting Glacier towers at the end of the fjord, so listen for the thunderous crack that signals a huge block of ice falling into the water. Drygalski Fjord is also the main breeding area for snow petrels in South Georgia, so use your binoculars to spot them as they blend into the white cliffs.

Days 12–13: At sea
After days of exploration, take a moment to relax in your luxuriously appointed suite. Marvel at the wildlife from the viewing platform while your butler brings you afternoon tea. After an informative lecture in the world-class theater, engage in an insightful conversation with a member of the Discovery Team. Or simply watch the world go by as you make yourself comfortable and relax in your cabana on Deck 10.

On day 13, you'll head into Antarctic waters, and the excitement builds as you search for icebergs. Put on your complimentary polar parka and head to the observation deck to look for seabirds, such as the wandering albatross, which has the largest wingspan of any flying bird. Or keep an eye out for a whale breaching in the distance. Your taste buds will be delighted as you explore the extensive dining options on board, ranging from casual to fine dining, including private meals in your suite served by your butler.

On the 20-day trip from Buenos Aires, you will be at sea on days 11 and 12.

Day 14: Antarctica
Arriving in Antarcticafor the first time is unlike anything you have ever experienced. Welcome to a challenging, unpredictable, and breathtakingly beautiful environment that always finds a way to surprise you. Open your floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and step out onto the private veranda of your suite. See icebergs of various shapes and sizes formed by nature, majestic glaciated mountains rising thousands of meters from the sea, and search for penguins, seals, and whales. A truly unique way to wake up and start your day of discovery.

The Scenic Eclipse Discovery Team is the core element of your Antarctic journey. It consists of up to 20 members, all leading experts in their field with diverse qualifications, ranging from science to geology, botany, history, photography, archaeology, anthropology, marine biology, and glaciology. They will answer your curious and technical questions and accompany you every step of the way on your journey.

Your expedition includes incredible activities such as Zodiac excursions, landings, and hikes. You can also go kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, which will be among your favorite activities in Antarctica. Gliding on the water is peaceful, and being at eye level with the icebergs is both a humbling and awe-inspiring experience. An expert guide is available to answer any questions you may have, but it is also the perfect time to enjoy the silence and experience the moment.

On the 20-day trip from Buenos Aires, you will explore Antarctica, including the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, on days 13 to 17.

Day 15: Antarctica
Board your Zodiac and feel the fresh, crisp air on your face as you head toward the 7th continent. Hear the snow crunching under your boots as you prepare for what landing will bring. Every new encounter will fill you with wonder. See wild animals in their natural habitat, unafraid of humans, or visit historic sites scattered along the coast. Antarctica is truly a fascinating place.

Due to the exceptional nature of the region, there are numerous possibilities available to you during your expedition, depending on ice and weather conditions. Your experienced captain and specialized discovery team, who have made countless trips to Antarctica, will use their expertise to plan your journey day by day and make the most of the 18-20 hours of daylight.

Be sure to pack your swimwear. For many, the Polar Plunge is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a rite of passage for an expedition to Antarctica. Throughout the voyage, the Scenic Eclipse will stop and the team will prepare the port for the brave souls who want to jump into the icy Antarctic waters.

The excitement will spread on the Discovery Yacht, and you'll hear the infectious nervous laughter. As you stand at the edge, ready to jump, you'll feel the adrenaline rush as you wonder if this was a good idea. When you jump, the moment before you hit the water feels like an eternity, before you feel the cold water rising up your body. This cool dip will be invigorating, exciting, and surprisingly refreshing.

If you decide against the polar plunge, find a good vantage point and drink a cup of hot chocolate while feeling the chill of the people coming out of the water.

Days 16–19: Antarctica
On your voyage of discovery through Antarctica, you can expect remarkable encounters with wildlife.

Eight species of penguins are native to Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic region, and around twelve million penguins live on the Antarctic Peninsula. Visiting a penguin colony on land is an unforgettable experience. Close your eyes as you approach a penguin colony to fully experience it. Your sense of smell will be the first to wake up, as the not-so-sweet smell announces that you are close. Hear their powerful calls, which grow louder as you get closer to the shore. Watch them waddle awkwardly and interact with each other. Among the penguins you can see on the peninsula are Adélie, chinstrap, gentoo, and the very rare emperor penguins.

Whales are another powerful creature you may encounter on your journey, and you will find their gentle movements soothing and impressive. Feel the anticipation of the first sighting of the jet of water shooting into the air, to find out where the second one comes from and to see their huge bodies surface for another breath. It could be the back of a minke whale, the hump of a humpback whale, or the dorsal fin of an orca. You can watch from the Observation Lounge on the Scenic Eclipse, in a Zodiac with an experienced member of the Discovery team, or you may be lucky enough to experience it from their level in a kayak or stand-up paddleboard.

Antarctica is also a paradise for birdwatchers, attracting more than 40 different species. Keep your eyes peeled for migrating albatrosses, shearwaters, giant petrels, blue-eyed petrels, diving petrels, cormorants, grebes, skuas, gulls, and terns.

On the 22-day trip, you will explore Antarctica, including the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, on days 14 to 19.

Days 20–21: At sea
Thousands of penguins. Countless seals and whales. Birdlife found only in Antarctica. Endless expanses of ice. It takes a while to digest the remarkable impressions of the world's southernmost continent. Sometimes quiet contemplation is the best way to do this – perhaps by editing photos, writing in your journal, or marking highlights on a map. At other times, it's ideal to be with others who understand your feelings. Join your fellow travelers and relive every moment that has brought joy over the past three weeks.

Continue towards Montevideo. Enjoy your last few days aboard the Scenic Eclipse.
