On this unique train and boat journey, you’ll travel from Stockholm on scheduled trains through the Swedish countryside all the way to Lapland. You’ll explore Northern Scandinavia by bus, ferry, and train, and take a mail boat to the Hanseatic city of Bergen. Look forward to a comprehensive tour of Scandinavia, taking you through Swedish forests, to the secluded fells of Lapland, and to the rocky peaks along Norway’s coast, which glow mysteriously on bright Scandinavian summer evenings.

Day 1: Flight to Sweden
Today you'll fly from Germany to Stockholm. Before the welcome dinner, your tour guide will invite you to take a walk. (A)
Day 2: Stockholm
Built on 14 rocky islands, Stockholm is considered one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. On a guided tour, you’ll explore the Old Town island of Gamla Stan, see the Royal Palace and the City Hall—where the Nobel Prizes are awarded—and visit the Vasa Museum. In the afternoon, you’ll have time to explore the city on your own. Among the newer attractions is the ABBA Museum, which opened in 2013. The archipelago off Stockholm’s coast is also worth exploring. (F)
Day 3: Off to Jämtland
In the morning, you’ll take the train to Östersund, one of the most important and beautiful cities along the Inlandsbanan. In the afternoon, you’ll get to know the city on a guided tour. In the evening, you can explore the rest of the city on your own. (B)
Day 4: The Inlandsbanan
You’ll be richly rewarded today for getting up early. You’ll enjoy your day in the classic, cozy cars of the Swedish Inlandsbanan. Along the way, there will be stops for culinary delights and cultural experiences. In the evening, you’ll check into your hotel room in Gällivare. (B)
Day 5 in Lapland
From Gällivare, you’ll continue on to Kiruna and enjoy the views of classic Lapland landscapes. Kiruna is the largest city in Swedish Lapland and has plenty to offer during your two-night stay here. You’re free to spend the first evening as you wish. (B)
Day 6: Kiruna in Transition
The day begins with a sightseeing tour of Kiruna, a town located near a mine—now a little too close. For safety reasons, the town is being relocated. Last year, the traditional wooden church was moved to a new location, and other buildings will also be relocated. In the afternoon, if you’d like, you can take a public guided tour of the mine, which goes about 540 meters underground. (F)
Day 7: From the Fjäll to the Fjords
Today you’ll travel along one of the most scenic sections of the Erzbahn, crossing the border into Norway along the way. The route takes you past Torneträsk, through remote mountain regions high above the Ofotfjord, and along the fjords to Narvik. You’ll continue by bus to the coastal town of Harstad, where you’ll spend the night. (B)
Day 8: In the Lofoten Archipelago
On a day trip by bus, you’ll visit some of the approximately 80 islands of the Lofoten. The countless rocky peaks, surrounded by sounds and fjords, form a truly magical mountainous landscape in the sea. Your local tour guide knows the most beautiful coves and viewpoints, including the Lofoten Wall, which rises up to 1,000 meters above sea level. You’ll stop in small fishing villages and enjoy the tranquility of this world of rock and sea. In the evening, you’ll take the ferry to Bodø, where you’ll check into your hotel room. (B, L)
Day 9: Back South
Today, you’ll travel the long distance between Bodø and Trondheim on the Nordland Railway. The time on the train will fly by as you take in the beautiful scenery and relax. Depending on your arrival time, you may even have time to explore the former royal city. (B)
Day 10: Trondheim, the Former Royal Capital
In the morning, you'll explore Trondheim together. The tour ends at the harbor, where you'll board your coastal ship and check into your cabin for the night. (FMA)
Day 11: Bergen
After sailing around Norway’s West Cape, your ship will arrive at its destination, Bergen, in the afternoon. During a guided tour, you’ll see, among other things, the reconstructed trading posts of the Hanseatic merchants in Bryggen and the fish market. Afterward, you’ll check into your room at a centrally located hotel. If the weather is nice, it’s worth taking the funicular up to the Fløien viewpoint before you have dinner together. (FA)
Day 12: Norway in a Nutshell
Take the Bergen Railway to Voss, from where you’ll travel by bus down to the Nærøy Fjord. Here, you’ll transfer to a ferry. This arm of the fjord, surrounded by mountain peaks up to 1,800 m high, is considered the wildest part of the Sogne Fjord. You’ll change modes of transportation once more and enjoy a spectacular train ride on the Flåm Railway: Over a distance of just 20 km, the train winds its way from sea level up to the Hardanger Plateau at an elevation of 865 m. You’ll return to Bergen in the evening via the Bergen Railway. (F)
Day 13: Return flight to Germany
Today you'll fly back to Germany. If you'd like, you can extend your trip to Oslo and fly back from there or take the ferry to Kiel. (F)
