Day 1: From London, heading west
Board the Britannic Explorer at London’s Victoria Station. Explore the elegant train cars—and, of course, your own compartment—as the train leaves London in the soft afternoon light. England’s enchanting west gradually comes into view. Make yourself comfortable in the dining car, enjoy a classic afternoon tea, and then a cocktail or two at the bar as the train winds its way through the market towns of the North Wessex Downs and Somerset. At dusk, you’ll reach the historic West Somerset Railway, offering fantastic views of the countryside and coastline. After your first dinner—and perhaps some music and gin in the observation car—you’ll drift off to sleep peacefully in your compartment. (A)
Day 2: The Devon Coast
Enjoy brunch in the dining car as the train travels along Devon’s breathtaking southern coast. Here you’re on the Riviera Line, where views of the vast ocean are enchanting. The train rolls toward Cornwall along the rugged beauty of Dartmoor. In the early afternoon, you’ll reach southern Cornwall. Here, you can get off the train and choose between two experiences: enjoy your time in the picture-perfect town of St. Ives, home to the Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum, or take a guided tour of the Tremenheere Sculpture Garden, which includes a private wine tasting. Day 3: Penzance and the Southwest
Today, you can choose between a boat ride off the picturesque coastal town of Fowey, followed by a barbecue on the beach, or a visit to the Colwith Distillery, followed by a vodka tasting. In the early evening, you’ll return to the train, which rolls through Somerset to the charming town of Bruton. Here, you’ll enjoy a private tour of the Hauser & Wirth art gallery, followed by drinks and canapés at Oudolf Field. The day will be capped off with an exclusive dinner at Da Costa, featuring dishes inspired by the Veneto region of northern Italy. (FMA)
