Expedition with orca and humpback whale watching under the Northern Lights*

from/to Tromsø, Northern Norway

22–24 hours, 1 night on board

Maximum 52 people

MS Quest

On this unique safari, you will experience three very special highlights: you will encounter orcas and humpback whales, experience the polar night, and, with a little luck, see the northern lights*.

Orcas are found in many marine areas around the world, but in northern Norway they are most commonly seen during the winter months, from October to January. The main reason for this seasonal gathering is the arrival of herring shoals in these waters. During the cold months, large quantities of herring migrate to the fjords of northern Norway to overwinter. This attracts orcas, which feed on these shoals of fish.

Orcas use complex and coordinated hunting techniques to efficiently hunt schools of fish. These spectacular hunting strategies are not only an impressive natural spectacle, but also offer valuable insights into the social behavior and intelligence of these marine mammals. The winter months therefore offer a unique opportunity to see orcas in action as they search for food in the dynamic and often dramatically beautiful landscapes of northern Norway.

At the same time, conditions are ideal for northern lights*: the skies above the fjords of northern Norway are often clear, and you are far enough away from urban light pollution.

Join us on a 24-hour expedition and take advantage of the unique opportunity to see the whales before everyone else arrives and experience the magical dance of the Northern Lights above you.

After spending the night aboard the MS Quest, you will wake up in the morning surrounded by pods of whales. Enjoy several hours almost exclusively with these majestic creatures before the day tourists arrive on their excursion boats.

Implementation between October 31 and January 31.
