7 days (6 nights) Arctic winter glamping experience, from/to Luleå, with 4 days in a cozy wooden teepee/Lapland Cone Room followed by 3 days at the Outpost Lodge, with first-class catering and outdoor activities in the snow.

Leave the stress and hectic pace of everyday life behind for a week and experience Sweden in an authentic way. The locations of the Glamping & Action Camps are exclusive retreats in the Arctic wilderness. Here you can truly relax and get in tune with nature.

You will spend the first three nights on the banks of the Råne River in a stylishly furnished wooden teepee with a sauna or a Lapland Cone Room with panoramic windows. There you can enjoy the winter tranquility, the clear forest air, and complete comfort under the stars.

In the coming days, you can look forward to cozy evenings by the fireplace at the Outpost Lodge. The outpost near the Arctic Circle offers plenty of space, a steam bath, and a sauna. During these three days, you will also be treated to regional specialties and first-class service—with a perfect view of the colorful display of the Northern Lights.

The selected program and the winter equipment provided invite you to enjoy outdoor activities deep in the Lapland wilderness. Clear your mind. On a snowshoe hike through the forest, while sculpting ice sculptures, or immersing yourself in the history, culture, and way of life of northern Sweden.

Your week in the nature of northern Sweden

Day 1 | Flight to Luleå & Camp Check-in

You will be picked up at Luleå Airport and taken through the forests of Sweden to the camp. The last part of your journey marks the beginning of your break in nature: a short sleigh ride across the frozen lake. At the camp, you will be warmly welcomed with refreshments, then check into your cozy Lapland Cone Room or spacious wooden teepee.

Spend the rest of the day soaking up your new surroundings. You can hike through the surrounding forests on snowshoes, take a spin on winter bikes, or explore the trails on cross-country skis. Use the forest sauna to warm up and recover from your journey while enjoying the peace, smells, and sounds of the woods.

When evening comes, enjoy a drink by the crackling fire as you wait for your authentic Swedish 4-course meal to be prepared. If the sky is clear, you can then take a stroll on the frozen lake to aid digestion. And you might even see a few northern lights.

Day 2 | Husky tour, ice sauna, ice sculptures, and an evening with locals

Start your day with a hearty breakfast to fortify yourself for the day ahead. One of the most typical ways to travel through the winter forests of the Arctic north is by dog sled. Today, you will learn how to harness the huskies and then drive your own dog team. Listen to the sound of the sled as it glides through the snow and the huskies run with joy. During your outdoor lunch break, sit by the fire and warm yourself with the dogs. Then they will return to their favorite activity: running. Back at camp, take some time for yourself.

In the afternoon, the ice sauna is ready for a little rejuvenation. In winter, you will find this sauna on the frozen lake. Enjoy the cozy warmth there and then jump into the ice pool: pure endorphins. Upon request, a private time slot for sauna use can be arranged.

If you prefer to be creative, then try your hand at ice sculpting. After a brief introduction, it's up to you to transform the large blocks of ice, taken directly from the river, into your masterpiece. You can probably continue working on it over the next few days.

You will spend the evening in the company of a Swedish family, enjoying typical food and interesting conversation. By now, you will feel almost at home in northern Sweden. At the end of the day, a snowmobile will pick you up and take you back to camp. The flickering of the northern lights will accompany you on the journey.

Day 3 | Ice fishing & photography workshop

After breakfast, the fishing guide will show you how to catch fish on a frozen lake. Fishing is an important activity in Swedish Lapland, even in winter. However, it is not easy under these conditions. You will learn about the ice, the local fish species, and how to use an ice drill. Whether you catch anything or not, you are sure to have a relaxing and enjoyable time at the lake. In between, you will also get to know and love the custom of fika (a short break with a hot drink and something sweet). You will return to camp for lunch and then spend a relaxing afternoon. Use the time to explore the region's trails on Nordic skis or treat yourself to a forest or ice sauna.

Before the 4-course dinner in the evening, enjoy a drink on the veranda. When the sky is clear, you can see the stars twinkling. To ensure your photos of the Arctic nights turn out well, a professional will show you how to best capture the Northern Lights. On cloudy nights, you will also learn how to take beautiful photos in the dark using the "low-light" method.

Day 4 | Change of location & reindeer farm

After breakfast, you will check out of the camp and set off for a morning dedicated to Sami culture, traditions, and the history of this region.

During a visit to a traditional reindeer farm, you will learn more about the unique relationship between a reindeer and its owner. You will also learn about the culture and work involved in being part of a Sami family. After the tour, your guide will take you to the Outpost Lodge. It is located a little further north towards the Arctic Circle and will be your cozy home for the rest of your stay.

The Outpost has five bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, kitchen, living room, spacious dining area, and fireplace. The hosts take care of your well-being around the clock, provide refreshments, and also cook for you, so you can completely relax.

Mårdsel and the surrounding region offer great opportunities to try snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. These tours give you a taste of Arctic village life. Swedes place great importance on cooking and hospitality, as well as connecting with and enjoying activities in nature.

While dinner is being prepared, take advantage of the Outpost's sauna, which is available for your private use during your stay. The aperitif is followed by an Arctic feast. Your hosts will proudly show you some time-honored cooking methods from northern Sweden. Of course, only seasonal and regional products are used.

When night falls, keep an eye out for the Northern Lights right outside the lodge door. When they light up, take a stroll through the surrounding village. Due to its low light pollution, Mårdsel is one of the best and quietest places in the area to marvel at the Northern Lights.

Day 5 | Snowmobile tour to the Arctic Circle

After breakfast, you will meet your snowmobile guide, who will take you on a tour to the Arctic Circle today. This is located just a little further north. From December 21, the sun does not rise above the horizon, and the further north you travel, the longer the polar nights last. The unique position of the sun makes a trip to the Arctic Circle in winter something special, especially on a snowmobile.

You will traverse forests and vast, frozen seascapes toward the polar circles, where the gateway to the Arctic Circle is located. It is an ideal location to warm up by the fire and enjoy a snowshoe hike. And, of course, to take a commemorative photo as you pass through the gateway.

You return to the Outpost Lodge, warm up in the sauna, and relax by the fire after an action-packed day. After a hearty 4-course meal, you end the evening with a hot drink by the outdoor fireplace. On a clear night, you can enjoy views of the Northern Lights.

Note: Snowmobile tours to the Arctic Circle are weather dependent and take place from January 10 to April 30.

Day 6 | Nordic skiing, the secrets of Swedish baking, and a wild dinner on Potato Mountain

After the expedition, you are sure to sleep well and take it easy the next morning. After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed Nordic ski tour through the surrounding forests and vast winter landscape. Take a break halfway through for a fika by the fire. Watch the wildlife—reindeer, moose, and arctic hares are often spotted around the outpost.

Back at the outpost, you will get creative in the kitchen after a warming lunch. Learn the techniques for making traditional Swedish bread and delicacies in a short baking course taught by locals. Of course, you will then get to taste the fragrant results together.

End your day with an unforgettable dinner under the vast Arctic sky. Take a short walk on snowshoes to higher ground. Potato Mountain is a traditional gathering place for Mårdsel and the perfect spot for a cozy dinner under the stars. Enjoy the evening with local food, drinks, and conversation by the fire. Keep an eye out for the Northern Lights in the sky. Then return to the outpost to quietly wind down your last evening in the Arctic.

Day 7 | By horse-drawn sleigh to the airport

After breakfast, you check out of the outpost and are taken to Luleå Airport in a very special way: by horse-drawn sleigh. The ride takes you through the quiet, snow-covered forest. The horses gallop and you slowly say goodbye. A light BBQ awaits you at a final stop in nature. Afterwards, your guide will pick you up for the transfer to the airport. With a good feeling for nature and lots of new energy, you will make your way home.

YOUR ACCOMMODATION

Glamping & Action Camp

Glamping & Action Camp

The camp is the world's first glamping site of its kind, specially created to celebrate the unique climate of Arctic Sweden. The camp is nestled among trees on the shore of Lake Degerselet, part of the Råne River, and is surrounded by forest in all directions—except when you look up. The camp offers unobstructed views of the night sky, making it a perfect place for northern lights seekers in the fall and winter.

It has five heated cabins: three large wooden teepees and two cozy Lapland Cone Rooms, offering guests a comfortable stay surrounded by the nature of Swedish Lapland. The sauna on the lake is open all year round: in winter it is frozen into the ice and in summer it floats peacefully on the water. The team is always on hand to ensure you can fully enjoy and relax during your stay. The camp is known for its high standards and personal touch when it comes to hospitality.

The Outpost Lodge

The Outpost Lodge

South of the Arctic Circle, in the peaceful village of Mårdsel, lies our guesthouse, The Outpost Lodge. Once a picturesque post office and now a cozy winter hideaway, here you can enjoy the true serenity of the north and feel at home after an Arctic adventure. With numerous northern lights sightings right on the doorstep, The Outpost is perfect for evenings by the fireplace spent watching for the aurora borealis.

A 1.5-hour drive from Luleå Airport or a 45-minute drive from Aurora Glamping & Action Camp, guests are often encouraged to complement their winter stay at the camp with one or two nights at The Outpost, especially if crossing the Arctic Circle is on their bucket list.

Mårdsel and the surrounding wilderness are a great opportunity to try out our snowshoes, Nordic skis, and kicksleds. With a population of six locals, this is a unique opportunity to experience life in a remote Arctic village.
