Hotel Arctic

Ilulissat, Greenland

The world's northernmost 4-star hotel

When you check into the world's northernmost 4* hotel, one of the world's most beautiful views lies at your feet: right in front of you stretches the famous Ilulissat Fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004 and a daily changing ensemble of the world's most beautiful icebergs.

Spend your evenings in the gourmet restaurant enjoying dishes from all over Greenland, selected wines, various beers, and cocktails. From May to October, a Greenlandic wow buffet is served every evening.

The Ice Fjord is home to one of the world's largest and most active glaciers, whose 3,000 km² surface advances approximately 20 meters every day.

The glacier "calves" approximately 10% of the inland ice that flows from Greenland into the sea – something that occurs nowhere else in the world. This makes the ice fjord directly in front of Ilulissat a park full of constantly changing sculptures. The shapes, colors, and sounds of the icebergs are unforgettable once you have witnessed such a spectacular natural phenomenon. This makes the Hotel Arctic an extraordinary place to stay and definitely worth a visit.

The charming town of Ilulissat has a lot to offer: colorful wooden houses on the surrounding hills, but also modern buildings; many dog sleds parked in front of the houses, the local everyday means of transport; a busy harbor where you can see boats coming and going on their way to fishing grounds between the large icebergs – a place where traditional Greenlandic life is lived.

The museum in the birthplace of polar explorer Knud Rasmussen, shops selling Greenlandic handicrafts and sealskins in modern designs, as well as cafés and restaurants, are waiting to be explored.

Fjell Room

The five Fjell rooms at Hotel Arctic have their own terrace and, as the name suggests, direct access to the fell. These rooms are the newest in the hotel and meet 4-star standards in every respect. The large panoramic windows offer a direct view of Disko Bay. The two mattresses on the adjustable beds can be individually adjusted so that you can always keep an eye on the mountains, the sea, and the icebergs. Or enjoy the great view from the comfortable armchairs. If the sun gets too strong, simply activate the awning.
The rooms are equipped with a wardrobe, desk, two chairs, a coffee table, and a bench in front of the window. There is a table and two chairs on the terrace.
You can also enjoy a clear view of the mountains and Disko Bay from the exclusive bathroom. The bathroom features a remote-controlled bidet built into the toilet. The mirror has Bluetooth speakers that play music from your iPhone and Android devices.
The theme of the rooms is the Greenlandic guillemot, a species of bird. The five Fjell rooms are open between May 1 and October 31.

igloo

Have you always wanted to spend a night in an igloo in the Arctic wilderness? Then seize the opportunity and stay in one of five unique igloos for two people from May to October. The igloos are just a short walk across a wooden bridge from the hotel. Surrounded by cliffs, Disko Bay, and gigantic icebergs drifting by. The design and shape of the igloo huts are based on classic Eskimo igloos. However, instead of ice, the igloos here are made of an aluminum skeleton, which makes them just as comfortable inside and equipped with all the latest amenities as a standard hotel room. The feeling, however, is completely different. While the harsh natural environment lies outside the door, the igloos are modern and comfortably furnished inside with electric heating, radio, television, telephone, kitchenette, and small bathroom with shower. There is room for two people in a double bed or two single beds. Only a real igloo could top this experience.
