Once again this year, the comfortable Costa Verde Express will run on the special route from Bilbao to Santiago de Compostela (or in the opposite direction, depending on the date). You’ll travel
with an international group along the Way of St. James. The route invites you to discover the rich historical heritage of the northern Spanish regions of the Basque Country, Asturias, Cantabria
and Galicia—in a far more comfortable way than the pilgrims did.

Day 1 Bilbao – Santander

In the morning, the crew will warmly welcome you aboard at Bilbao’s train station and show you to your compartment. You’ll then explore Bilbao and the Guggenheim Museum. During lunch, your train will head west along the Way of St. James. Along the way, you’ll visit the old town of Laredo and take a boat tour in Santoña Bay. In Santander, you’ll enjoy the view of the city. (MA)

Day 2 Santander – Llanes

In the morning, your train rolls through green hills and reaches Cabezón de la Sal. From here, you take the bus to medieval Santillana del Mar. Above the town, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site awaits you: the caves of Altamira with their prehistoric rock paintings. In the afternoon, your train reaches Asturias. The first stop is the seaside resort of Llanes with its old fishing port. (FMA)

Day 3 Llanes – Picos de Europa – Oviedo

In the morning, you will take a bus to Arenas de Cabrales, where you will visit the cheese cave museum. You will enjoy lunch during your train ride to Oviedo before exploring the proud capital of Asturias with its many churches and palaces in the afternoon. (FMA)

Day 4 Gijón – Luarca

The enchantingly authentic port city of Gijón exudes the spirit of the wide world. Its picturesque old town is perched on a peninsula in the middle of the sea. After lunch, your train journey continues through the green hills of Asturias to the idyllic fishing village of Luarca—Asturias straight out of a picture book! (FMA)

Day 5 Luarca – Ribadeo – Viveiro

Your train follows the ancient pilgrimage route to Ribadeo—welcome to Galicia! The Beach of the Cathedrals is breathtaking: the forces of nature and the tides have carved out enormous rock formations that lean against the cliffs like Gothic flying buttresses. The city walls of this small port town withstood the Moors, Vikings, and pirates. You’ll travel by bus to the Oscos region, where you’ll visit the Os Teixóis ethnographic complex. You’ll spend the afternoon in Viveiro. (FMA)

Day 6 Viveiro – Santiago de Compostela

Today you will travel through Galicia's forests to Santiago de Compostela. The scenery is spectacular: a sea of churches and monasteries, interspersed with pilgrims, students, musicians, and visitors from all over the world. The sublime atmosphere of the cathedral, festive organ music, and the scent of incense allow the faithful, with their pilgrim's staffs, to forget all the hardships of the pilgrimage! After lunch in the city, your journey ends with the Costa Verde Express. (FM)
