Once again this year, the comfortable Costa Verde Express will run on the special route from Bilbao to Santiago de Compostela (or in the opposite direction, depending on the date). You’ll travel along the Way of St. James as part of an international group. The route invites you to discover the rich historical heritage of the northern Spanish regions of the Basque Country, Asturias, Cantabria, and Galicia—in a far more comfortable way than the pilgrims did.

Day 1 Santiago de Compostela – Viveiro

Meet in the center of Santiago de Compostela in the morning. You will visit the city during the Year of St. James. The backdrop is spectacular: a sea of churches and monasteries made of gray granite, interspersed with pilgrims, students, musicians, and tourists. The sublime atmosphere of the cathedral, festive organ music, and the scent of incense allow believers with pilgrim's staffs to forget all the hardships of the pilgrimage and captivate you as well. In the afternoon, you will take the bus to Ferrol, where the Costa Verde Express train awaits to take you to Viveiro. (MA)

Day 2 Viveiro – Ribadeo – Taramundi – Luarca

During breakfast, you will arrive in Ribadeo – welcome to Galicia! The Beach of the Cathedrals is overwhelming: the forces of nature and the tides have created huge rock formations that lean against the cliffs like Gothic flying buttresses. From here, we take the bus to the Oscos region to visit the Os Teixois ethnographic complex, the Taramundi Castro, and the knife museum. In the afternoon, the tracks wind their way down to the dreamy fishing village of Luarca – Asturias straight out of a picture book! Overnight stay in Luarca. (FMA)

Day 3 Luarca – Gijón – Oviedo – Llanes

The enchantingly authentic port city of Gijon exudes the spirit of the wider world. Its picturesque old town is perched on a peninsula in the middle of the sea, flanked by two sweeping beach bays. In the afternoon, you continue to Oviedo, the proud capital of Asturias and a Christian enclave that defied the Moors for centuries. The mighty cathedral, churches, and palaces that you explore bear witness to this. In the evening, the train continues to Llanes. (FMA)

Day 4 Llanes – Arenas de Cabrales – Cabezón de la Sal

After breakfast, you will travel by bus to Arenas de Cabrales, where you will visit the cheese cave museum. After lunch in Arenas de Cabrales, you will visit the fishing town of Llanes. Your train will then continue on to Cabezón de La Sal, where you will spend the night. (FMA)

Day 5 Cabezón de la Sal – Santillana del Mar – Santander

After breakfast, take the bus to Santillana del Mar, whose trading houses, churches, and palaces will transport you back to the Middle Ages. Above the town, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site awaits you: the caves of Altamira with their prehistoric rock paintings. You can admire faithful replicas of these paintings in the museum next door. In the afternoon, you will be enchanted by Cantabria's capital, Santander. (FMA)

Day 6 Santander – Bilbao

Enjoy your breakfast as your train rolls through Treto towards Bilbao, capital of Biscay. After lunch, your journey on the Costa Verde Express comes to an end. (FM)
